Brief history... horse diagnosed with spavins in both hocks in June, treated with cortisone and Adequan. Horse sound again. Insurer (was Equestrian Direct but now being dealt with by Equine First due to ED getting bought out etc) agreed claim, has paid out on the first £1,300 of vets fees plus £120 to me for osteo.

Horse has since needed further treatment as still not quite 100%. Vet reassessed, gave another course of Adequan and he has had a physio session. Vet bill now back up to £800 in total with various things. Vet has been owed this £800 since mid July. Insurance also owe me £50 for the physio, which has been owed since August.

It is now October.

How long would you expect it to take the insurer to pay out the remainder of the vet's fees? Claim is approved as I had my cheque for £120 last week, following me writing them a very snotty letter. Insurer have agreed, in writing, to pay vet directly however I see no sign of this yet (bar the first payout). I am insured for 5K of vets fees and they have no reason at all to withhold payment.

Is there anything I can do to hurry this payment along? My vet knows they are dealing with my insurer directly, as they wrote to me after filling claim forms in to say "you don't need to do anything. we will invoice your insurance company every month, the statements you receive are just copies of what we send to insurer" basically. I just feel that mid July to mid Oct is far too long for the insurance co to hold out on paying, esp considering they have no reason not to. It isn't as though they claim hasn't been approved.

Letters to Equine First aren't getting me anywhere really, though I did get a letter 3 days after sending one recorded delivery containing the £120 cheque. Do I just leave it to the vet to deal with? I don't like my vet being owed £800 by my insurance co!
