im looking into insurance for a horse. But do you need a vetting certificate of some sort for insuring it for less than a certain amount??
I have had a look but im still confused.if so are there certain companies that do this ,or if you have owned the horse for a certain period of time do you still need something to show the company thanks

Mine are only insured for a value of £3k each which NFU didn't ask for a certificate for, they both had them but it was not required. I normally only insure a minimum value to get 3rd party and vets cover etc but did consider upping B's value a couple of years back and when I enquired they required a 5 stage vet cert and a full competition history to justify the increase. When I found out how much the premium was plus the cost of the vetting I changed my mind

You will need a vet certificate if

you have a horse over a certain amount prob around £5000 it varies between companies
Or

have owned the horse for a while and not had it insured as some companies are suspicious of why you suddenly want to insure it now.

I recently insured new horse for £3500 and didn't need to send one that is with South Essex Insurance Brokers who are excellent by the way when it comes to paying out:D

With NFU you can insure anything up to £5000 without a vet certificate, as long as it excludes LOU cover.

If you want LOU cover, or to insure for £5000 or more, then you need a 5 stage vetting.
