I was just wondering what insurance company anyone would recommend? i have decided to take the plunge and buy my first horse and would rather go with a company people have had experience with!
Thankyou
Im with Petplan, never had to make a claim (touch wood) but heard they were good which is why I decided to go with them. A friend of mine is with NFU and had to make a couple of claims and they have been very good.
I'm surprised Petplan are still afloat with all they have had to pay out on my horses!!!
They have always been very easy to deal with and paid out promptly, I really can't fault their claims procedures. Their staff are also easy to talk to, and I have sometimes cried on their shoulders so to speak, with the situations I have been in needing to claim for my horses.
My only grievance is that having reduced my horse's value when she was looking like she would not be ridden again, they now won't let me increase it back to the original level now that she is totally mended
I should have had more faith and not reduced it in the first place.
Petplan will cover 100% of MRI scanning on a vet's referral (which can cost £1000+). NFU only cover 50%. On the other hand, Petplan don't cover transport costs and NFU do, so whether or not you have your own transport could make a difference.
I would stay away from SEIB as they are a pain to get money from (heard that about E&L as well).
I am with Stoneways who seem to be very reasonable and were very good when I had to make a large claim with horse fractured pedal bone - they paid for vets fee plus stabling, overnight care etc.
I am with SEIB with 2 horses - claimed literally thousands over the years with one of them and they've always paid up promptly tbh. In middle of a claim with NFU on OH's horse, and not had any money yet.....but sure we will eventually!
