I hate to ask this, but what are peoples experiences of insurance companies paying out after a claim? I can't get any sense out of my insurers - they just say 'it's with the assessors and when they get to the 4th November [date they count the claim] then they will look at it'. I haven't been in this position before, and it's dragging out the pain. I've already sent the paperwork three times, hence the 'late' date. I know they have to do their bit, but if they could just give me a date or a time scale I could cope better.

My experiences vary dramatically from insurance company to insurance company. I won't mention names in the forum but whilst all claims I have ever had have been paid out it varies from cheque almost before The claim had arrived to one with another company where after lots of 'it's just being processed' to ' the cheques being issued' I had to threaten court action and then I got paid. Unfortunately there does not seem to be any connection between how expensive the insurance company is to how well they treat you. I will say two companies who I have had policies with and have needed to make claims that have been superb are NFU - house, stables and horse and Sainsburys - a dog.

The companies that don't deal with claims efficiently seem not to appreciate the extra strees it can cause.

Thank you for your responsese. I have heard practically nothing but good about NFU, unfortunately too late to change things over. I have two ponies also with my current insurer, and their attitude to date is making me wonder if I should move them over before I need (forbid!) to make a claim again. It's interesting about Sainsbury's as well.

Is all a pile of blah

Then again, I can't bring myself to go to the yard either so maybe the insurnace seemingly being dragged out is academic.

If you are with E&L? then from previous threads on this forum be prepared for a lengthy wait before any type of payout. They are known for unhurried settling of claims..... was that diplomatic enough?

I know that some vets consider the horse to be uninsured if they are with that company & require payment from the horse owner themself & it is up to the horse owner to seek reimbursement.
