Insurance....

It used to be that if the horse was valued at less than £5,000 you could could get cover without a vets certificate.
Think they are tightening up on that though.

Yes you can but there is a limit on the horse value of between 2000 and 2500 normally

you can insure it...mine was done like this as at the time i couldnt find the certificate from 6 years previously (before that parents paid adn she wasnt insured). Mine was done through NFU-the local branch rather than national.

Not 100% certain, but i think if its value is over ten thousand you need re vetting every year

If insuring up to 5k without lou then no vetting
if over 2.5k with lou 5 stage
if over 5k without lou 2 stage
over 5k with lou 5 stage
over 10k no lou 2 stage
over 10k with lou then 5 stage, xrays and Purchase receipt

thats based on Petplan other insurance may differ

Yes the previous poster is correct, NFU for certain have a £5k limit on their policys for horse valuation. After £5k you have to have a five stage vetting carried out, which is what I did a couple of years ago for my horse which I felt was undervalued at the time. I raised his value to £7k and had to get a signed letter from an instructor to say they thought he was worth that. I had a lesson off a random instructor and she agreed to sign my 'letter' confirming that she felt he was worth what I wanted to insure him for. My premium increased an extra £81.00 but I felt at the time that the risk of my horse injuring himself (as he was put in the field with another horse) far exceeded the cost of extra premium and vetting. The vetting was £168.00.

just get a vetting, if you ever need to claim insurers can be buggers if you dont have a vetting.....a friend of mine learnt the hard way!
