Insurance

Petplan Equine. They were superb when my horse fractured his leg. Just got a second horse and insured her with them as well. Bit pricier than some of the others, but I have always found them to be very good

NFU. More expensive than some, maybe, but when M got kicked and the bill was about £1,400, they paid up direct to the vet.

Of course, he can't be kicked on that leg again, as it's excluded, but it's ok as I've tied a note to his back asking the other horses to remember that if the DO kick him again, it's on one of the three remaining insured legs. I'm sure they pay attention.:p

If the note doesn't work...... It's worth remembering that exclusions only apply to things related to the original problem so if he gets kicked again in a seperate incident on the same leg (even the same spot) it should be covered. ;)

Used to use Petplan and NFU, both good. Now I have 4 horses I self-insure by putting the same sum into a bank account every month. I get paid interest and don't need to worry about exclusions now!

We do that Dogstar! Saved us thousands so far! All gone into the piggy bank.. We do insure the eventer, but the others are only insured 3re party, death and theft. The vets are a bit more sensible towards our horses too now, or so it seems.
