We have a puppy here on foster at the moment, he's 12 weeks old, we're thinking he's a gsd/lurcher type. He has a calcium deficiency so is on Burns puppy, and a calcium supplement, and has gone from barely being able to stand, to running and playing like a normal puppy (his bouncing about is cut short by the big bad humans after about an hour though as his little legs start to get tired), in 5 days. If, and it's a big IF, we decided to keep him we would be insuring as I understand the line between too little and too much calcium is very fine, and we would need to be able to deal with vets bills should he have hip related issues in the future due to his previous treatment before we got him, or the possibility of too much calcium now. I will be speaking to the vet again in a few days when he goes to get vaccinated (poor soul wasn't fit to vaccinate before we got him) to express my concerns about too much calcium as his improvement so far is amazing. So the big question, who do you all insure with (reasonable value is, unfortunately, important), and would you recommend getting lifetime cover for this little guy more than you would for others, due to his increased likelyhood of problems, or are they likely to be either fix it now or don't problems, rather than longterm? I know it's very difficult to predict, but a little advice would be great :)
 
I have mine insured with tesco pet insurance very reasonable price and have paid out on one of mine very quickly no questions. And the premium only went up £3 for 2 dogs after last year and that was with a claim!
 
I would want lifetime cover. BUT its highly likely that anything to do with calcium levels won't be insured or will have to pay extra premium to cover as it would i imagine be classed as a pre existing condition.
 
Lifetime cover is always best as you don't know what's around the corner but anything linked to this calcium problem would be excluded. Pet plan would be my recommendation xxx
 
I had a ptoblem with tesco. It took them 6 weeks to pay on the claim for Lily's torsion surgery. Had to phone 3 times and ended up paying interest on my credit card. Have had to stay with them for lily as noone else will insure her now
