Just had renewal from dog insurance, its gone up £138 a month ! I have had one claim in for less than £200.
Done a comparison and its still cheaper than changing! Think I might just save the cash separately. My car insurance is cheaper!

saving the cash separately seems sensible until you get a £1000 bill (and before everyone jumps in with well I would just pts dog- thats easier said than done when its something easily fixable but takes time/cost)
So if you can afford to use a credit card or similar to cover a good chunk of money, fine save sepaarately but do think about what happens if the dog gets unwell suddenly in the first few weeks

That seems like an excessive increase to me ! We are insured with Petplan and currently pay £78 per month for Jake at 12.5 years old and £26 per month for Peril at 16 months old. We claimed £4500 last year on Jake's policy, and the increase at renewal was less than £6 per month. We also pay 20% of each claim on Jake's policy. I wouldnt consider moving either dog from Petplan because they have never queried a claim, and they even sent a handwritten sympathy card when we lost Spot. PTS would be a last resort for us, our dogs are our family and unless treatment was not in their best interest we would always treat rather than consider pts. Knowing we have the security of Petplan we can make a judgement call in the confidence that the bill will be settled. Our pet insurance also costs more than our car insurance, and our cars are worth a combined value of more than 80K but I know which I'd rather be without. 🐾😍

Another recommendation for Lifetime...I'm paying £9 a month for a 4 month old collie and it covers £3000 a year, which is reinstated at renewal.
