I’ve never insured dogs before, or the horses/alpacas really because I feel it’s more hassle and instead put money away in savings each month specially for this purpose.

however, got a lab puppy 10 days ago and in that time has leapt off a 1.5m wall (unscathed) and today her crate/cage collapsed on her (god knows how) and took her to vets just to get checked out. she’s going to be quite a brave thing but clearly not the most sensible. Given her habit for heights I’m thinking insuring her may be the smart option as she’s only 10 weeks old

have you guys any recommendations for insurance companies? Something decent, moderate price range that’s not going to argue over which vet can treat her etc. Thanks in advance!

My dog (and cat) is with Boughtbymany. I've claimed once with them when pup decided to sniff out my prescription ibuprofen and eat the entire box. They paid out £1,500 without quibbling and even paid for an additional blood test a few weeks later ujst to check she had no lasting damage and I only had to pay the one excess (£69). They also give you access to an app where you can have free unlimited online vet consultations.

The claim was super easy and simple, just answered a few questions online and that was it. Pretty sure we had payment in our account within maybe 2 weeks. And our premium despite this claim only rose by about £5 a month when it came to renewal. They also do lifetime cover rather than the annual cover. Think our pup is covered for £15k vet fees.

I second Boughtbymany. My young dog is with them and for the first time ever I had to make a claim last year. They were so easy to deal with and paid out with no quibbling. Premium didn't go up by too much either at renewal. I wasn't going to insure her past 3 but have decided to keep it on for now.

Nothing useful to say, but good to see you and I hope you are doing ok :)

Thank you :) Doing as well as can be, it’s so busy at work and so hard to have people same age as me being So unwell in ED. I may have been a bit sharp at a couple of people who where waiting to be seen and told me COVID is a myth... Even caught someone filming “empty corridors” few weeks ago in the major trauma ED

how are you? havent Been on here in ages but knew who to ask when had a question! :D

I was with direct line paid out With no problem, very easy but when she was 11 it went up to £125!! At which point I cancelled, that's for a lab.
The one good thing was the excess was only £80, not £80 and first 20%! I would say my friend had a golden retriever same age and in same town and her premium was similar with pet plan.

We do need a picture

Thank all, never heard of boughtbymany so will have a look!

petplan looks quite good for the entire life cover, works out 34 for classic per month which isn’t too much i think. Hard to work out what they won’t cover!

Another who’d recommend boughtbymany, I’ve (touch wood!!) not claimed for my dog or cat yet, but they’ve paid out an awful lot for my parents problem dog in the last 12-18mo and premium hasn’t increased much at renewal (many blood tests, referral consult, brain MRI, spinal tap, multiple medications...) They’ve got a lifetime policy, so theoretically they’ll continue to pay out for the rest of her life (and save my parents a fortune, even if the premiums do increase!)

I currently have Tiva with bought by many and the claim procedure for Ts very big surgery was very easy and vet was able to do direct claim. If you are planning on doing any gundog work or breeding with your pup then look at Agria as they do add ins to cover activities other insurers don’t cover.

If you are a member if BASC you can get discount. I think that applies through other organisations too. We insure for the first couple of years and then self fund after that.
