Ok. I've always used pet Plan for dogs. Never had a problem with them except they do raise the premiums yearly quite a lot

So anyone used Bought by Many? They appear to offer better (lifetime) cover for half the price but that makes me smell a rat!

Yes I used Bought by Many for Tiva, they were excellent at paying out and paid the referral vets directly. Im not sure about premium increases as T was only with them for 8 months before her splenectomy

We have one dog insured by Pets at Home and the other on Pet Plan.

Pets at Home in all fairness have been pretty good. We had our last rabbit insured with them too who had what I would describe as chronic gut issues. Instead of that being made into an exhemption they said that if she went a year without needing treatment it would be fine to claim for it in future. Somehow she got lucky and did manage a year without requiring a vet visit for it and so we maxed out the annual claims in the last couple of years of her life trying to figure out the root cause of her problems. Sadly never did.

Our dog has had a cough recently and we've spent close to £1000 on various appointments, investigations and treatments. It's been diagnosed as mycoplasma which I had originally put on the claim form as kennel cough. I assumed we wouldn't get anything back as she never did get the kennel cough vaccination but they have paid me back minus the excess.

Pet plan I'm a bit unhappy with from the off as they are more expensive than any other pet insurance company I've dealt with and our premium has increased significantly this year despite us never making a claim. The dog is just a mongrel as well so it's not like there are breed related issues they could be looking at.

Mine are insured with them. It's £97 a month for a rottie with an ongoing claim (happy pills around £120 a month) and a >20kg crossbreed on the same policy for £7k cover a year each on a lifetime policy. Reggie's renewal this year went from £51 to £73 but I didn't think that was too bad considering I'm claiming more than that every month. The claim was pretty easy except they wanted a full vet history for a rescue but they spoke to the rescue themselves and paid up. My previous dog was also with them and they paid nearly the full £7k with only 2 months premium paid (sad story, I lost him very quickly after getting him)

I've also used Co Op pet insurance - same underwriters as PetPlan - but literally quarter of the price. Their cover is not as good as BBM but they were very easy to deal with.
