Does anyone know of an insurance company who will insure trailers when being used for hire and reward? My current insurace company won't cover this and I am thinking of charging people to take them to competitions/vets etc and would like to be fully covered and do this properly. Thanks

Shearwater and NFU

Don't forget to keep your 4x4 and trailer and contents WELL below 3.5tonnes or you will need an operators licence.

You will also need a DEFRA Licence as well as taking the DEFRA ACET course (available at both the racing schools)

Then obviously public liability and care, custody and control insurance.

Good luck

If the combination is over 3.5 tonnes MAM then I think you need an O licence to do this

you will also be under the EU driver regulations

Just to clear up the point about O-licences.

If the 4x4 is calssified as 'dual purpose', basically has side windows and a 2nd row of seats going across the vehicle behind the drivers / front passengers seats. Then, even when towing a trailer it's use (including Hire & Reward) will be exempt O-licenaing. If no side windows / 2nd row of seats then O-licence requirement. There are quite a few 'commercial' 4x4s that fall into this class; some Defenders / Discoveries / Shoguns / Troopers.

The use of the vehicle combination will be subject to EU drivers hours rules and hence Tacho needs to be fitted and used if Maximum Authorised Mass (train weight shown on vehicle plate) exceeds 3.5 tonnes, which is highly likely with any decent size 4x4.
