Also in breeding.
Afew questions, if you dont mind.

Who does/ doesnt insure their foals, and reason why they do/ dont.
My insurance want a 2 stage vetting on my foal before they will insure her. Is this normal, and how much will the vetting cost me?

Any other factors i may not have thought of too?

Thanks

Did you breed the foal yourself? If not, what is purchase price as this will have a bearing on whether or not you need a vetting.

Who are you trying to insure her with?

When I bought my foal, NFU insured her without needing a vetting but it will also depend on the purchase price.

Thanks for your reply. No we bred her (our first foal hence all the Q's!)
We are trying to insure her with petplan.

Thanks

I am with KBIS and all they asked for was the blood test and then insured my foals. I think they had to be over so many days old before they were covered. A little surprised on a homebred foal needing 2 stage.

Ah, I see, NFU will insure her without a vetting but they will put her value at 3 x the stud fee so not sure what that would work out at for you!

Vetting for 2 stage would be about £80 - £100 depending on vet

I dont understand it either!? Foal is now 6 weeks old.

Il ring them back and ask why they need a two stage? I will be insuring her for minimal value at the moment, more to cover vets than anything else.

What is the average stud fee? We bought the mare and she was covered there and then for free, so foal cost me nowt!

my foal is insured because if any horse is going to do something stupid and hurt itself - it's a foal!!

Petplan wouldn't insure my foal for as much as i wanted (think they would do just the semen fee and mentioned a vetting) so i rang SEIB and they would insure it for the amount i wanted and no vetting required.

My friend bought a 6month old insurance want a mortality letter from vet from vet(had to be 30 day or less old). She didn't have loss of use.
