Who do you use to insure your horses with and how good have they been on price, clains etc???
also, the horse i want to insure is going abroad for a few months so i would need someone who can offer european cover for 3/4 months?

thank-youxxxx

This caused me a problem actually.

When i left the UK, i notified my UK insurers and they no longer wanted to insure my horse while i was resident in another country (fair enough tbh!). They also refused to keep him insured while he travelled.

We contacted a danish company to get quotes and so on for once he had moved and they were great, but wouldnt insure him for the journey from the uk TO denmark. They said if we'd been resident and purchasing to import, they would have covered him but as i was emigrating, my country of origin should do it :|

So basically, neither insurance company wanted responsibility for that travel period (and the danish company wanted a 4 week period from him arriving here to the insurance starting to allow for any "travel associated diseases" to become apparent).

My transport company arranged limited insurance for me, but it was literally a case of "if your horse dies en route, we'll pay out £1k", which was no where near his insurance value.

Anyway, i went with the travel companies insurance and thankfully all went well and he's now insured again here but it was a complete and total nightmare for me! Perhaps if yours is only going abroad for a time it will be easier, but neither country would touch mine when emigrating

ETS when importing theres never been a problem and the uk companies have always been happy to insure as soon as they have had the vet certificate and the xrays. Is there no way your UK insurer will cover it?

we spoke to nfu and they said no, but he's not insured with anyone atm so just looking around for who offers what and at what prices!!! so we can go with whoever, not tied to anyone.
