I have a 13 year old Beagle. He is currently insured however wondering if I should cancel the insurance given his age. He is excluded for anything he might ingest which causes issues already. I am also pretty sure he has cancer (he had a cancerous growth removed a few years back) given his age I would not put him through another operation (he is also NOT a good patient) he is still very happy and content in life although has slowed down somewhat. Has anyone stopped their older dogs insurance before and did you regret the decision?

Not dog, but I did stop my elderly cats insurance a few months ago because it wasn't covering anything I needed, a few weeks ago he was diagnosed with diabetes and I've already spent a fair amount just on regular bloods and urine samples, which would have been covered by insurance 🙄 it might be worth looking at your policy to see what it does cover, because of my cats age and other conditions I won't be putting him through insulin injections (it would stress him, and me, out too much) but it's worth thinking about whether you could afford to cover the costs if something treatable did come up

We’re in the same boat, Dalmatian will be 14 this year. Paying an extortionate amount but she has a lifetime policy and is still fully covered bar a 20% co payment.

She had a mast cell tumour removed in 2020 with no reoccurrence upto now. She’s totally deaf now, has lost a fair bit of muscle mass and so is slightly more wobbly than she used to be but is still full of life and happy.

We debate every year at renewal whether we carry on with it or just put the money aside. I think this year we’ll actually do that, she’s starting to show her age more over the past 6months and I’m very aware that I wouldn’t put her through lots of treatment at her age.

It’s so difficult isn’t it!! We just want them to live forever ❤️
