I'm interested in the above, or any similar company which provides worm counts and then tells you which, if any, products you need to worm with.

Does anyone on here use them, how do the costs work out and would you recommend it?

Yes, I've used them for about 2 years. It's probably a bit more expensive than worming. If you work out costs of worming approximately 5 times a year at about £18 a time, it's a couple of pounds cheaper to worm, but I'd rather not stuff him full of chemicals he doesn't need. You still have to worm for redworm but they send that to you when you need to do it as part of the price.

It's very easy, you just put a sample in the pot when they send it to you and send it back in the prepaid jiffy bag that's included. (Although mine got lost last time and they had to send me another one, so there's a little pot of poo floating around the post somewhere!) They then send you your worm count (mine comes by e-mail) and, if necessary, a wormer. My horse has always had a low count and not needed worming, except for the last but one after we had been on a riding holiday and he'd been on what I suspect was a wormy paddock. He got wormed and was back to normal at the last count. It doesn't matter if he's the only one in his field doing it as he's always treated according to his readings, not what is going on with the other horses.

I'd recommend it to anyone - Intelligent Worming are great, they phoned me as they hadn't had the sample that got lost, I didn't have to chase anything up.

Great, thanks - so how much does it cost - do you pay a subscription, or weekly/monthly/when they send the wormers...?

You pay one off cost for a year, about £85 I think with a heavy horse supplement of about £10 for anything over 600kg.

Forgot to say you can register online. I think I then phoned them to pay with my credit card when I got all the paperwork through. You fill in a questionnaire so they know all the horse's details.

To be honest, it would be far cheaper to just send worm counts to Abbey Diagnostics then worm as/when necessary. The only thing that some people have problems with is deciding which wormer to use if needed, but it really is pretty easy.

Very expensive. I am about to switch to Westgate Laboratories - I didnt like the way I wasnt 'in control' of the IW programme and I dont honestly know where my £130 went

agree with above.....I wonder where the money goes too....use abbey diagnostics for counts and ask the SQP at your feed store for a suitable worming programme - they will ask you all the relevant questions and sort you out with a suitable solution, and their advice is free!!
