I was wondering whether anyone had been to an intensive training week/weekend somewhere and what they thought of it? I have been having a look for one over the summer as it is something I would really like to do, and so far have found one to be available at Talland.

I would hopefully be taking Grace as I am looking at late summer... but could also take Hannah if that did not work out as it is more about training for me than the horse

A couple of women on my yard went to Dianne Breeze. They really enjoyed the week they spent there and I think if you really put into practice what you'd been taught there you'd come on leaps and bounds.

Really really good, well worth it. Allows you take stuff in, and then have another go, and the progress again.

I love going to Steve Hadley SJ clinics and normally have you have 3/4 sessions in a few days

What training do you want? I went to talland last October but this week I went for three days to Nigel taylors for some XC training. This was fantastic and I have made loads of progress. I went having only jumped 75cm unaffiliated and on the second day I jumped intro/pre novice fences (easily!!). I would not have even thought that I would be jumping this high as I am a bit of a wimp but I never gave it a second thought.. For my money, if you want sj or xc I would go to Nigel Taylor. AS well as the excellent training he was also incredibly hospitable..

There was a group of hho'ers who did an intensive weekend with Mary Wanless a few years back - it was really good and enjoyed by all (maybe that was the alcohol too! LOL!) There's also Markington (Yorkshire Riding Centre) they do intensive training

YRC is brilliant for intensive training and a lot closer to you to travel rather than Talland. I would highly recommend them. I have been going for the last seven years and love it.

I go for intensive training one weekend a month (ish...), usually for a long weekend (Friday to Monday). It is brilliant and extremely useful. I have lessons on a GP schoolmaster, and next time I go I will bring my own horse. I learn so much from having multiple lessons over a few days, and while I hurt like hell afterwards, it is well worth it!

Thanks everyone...

It would be dressage intensive training. I was thinking of asking for it as my birthday present this year you see, as it is something I have been thinking about doing for quite some time.

Who is at YRC?

I would also highly recommend YRC. Another option might be going to one of the dressage riders who offer intensive training ? (example Steph Croxford: http://mrpresidentiv.wordpress.com/training-holidays
However, I would prefer to go to a centre as you will be able to ride more horses and learn more without tiring your own horse too much!

Talland definitely comes highly recommended too. My friend did her AI and training towards Stage IV there and said that the teaching was first class.

I used to go on training breaks a lot in my teens and loved it

I go for intensive training as my trainer lives so far away we tend to do 3 days (5 lessons- 3 on my own, 2 on his horse) every so often. It's brilliant.

I've been to T\lland for a short stay too but didnt find it so beneficial

If you've got a trainer who already works well for you, get in with them

Sorry only just come back on line. Christopher and Jane Bartle, both brilliant and then there are some advanced instructors who are excellent too. If you want anymore info PM me. x
