Was a bit of a disaster but I am glad (I think!!) that we went..just good to get out, test the waters etc...and now I know what Chloe is like on outings!
The ground into the jumps was very very deep - not very wet/slippy, just muddy - tis hard to explain!
We set off, legged it over the first one, came to the 3rd/4th one - and was catapaulted out of saddle - bless the little girly - horse in front refused, so Chloe slowed, ducked her shoulders to move out of the way of the horse - a stride away she bounded straight into it, we both went over, except I landed about 4 ft away from where she landed

Completely my fault. She jumped everything first time, despite pile ups, bad ground, and general stressiness. Now have a very sore shoulder, can't not even lift a bowl up with that arm....

(and that is the one that I didn't fall on!

)
Off she zoomed, except someone caught her and brought her to me (was a bit slow as I was bent over LOL) After that we did a couple more jumps and a little canter, crossed a road, see if she would chill out a little bit but wasn't having any of that - she was just so wound up and was having none of it (she wasn't strong as such, just very very bouncy, evasive - not nice), neither of us was having much fun, so hopped off and led her back, with a really lovely RAF lady with me. (LOTS of people helped me today!) Was a good 20 min walk back, so she did chill a little bit when she was on her own - but man, when we were in our group (Only 2 other horses) she was bizarre.

Just got on....'where are the hounds and the men in red coats??'

In the warm up - unexploded bomb is what she felt like. excuse my stray leg...look at the ground behind her...

Annd team talk with sisters OH hehe!
IMG_0217.jpg

I am proud of her anyway - jumped all of about 5 jumps that we did LOL, and she wasn't spooky at all which is unlike her.

Wooooh, next sponsored ride in April, (I have a backup plan for that one - can swap onto Sis's hunter if all goes topsy turvy!) with a small SJ at the yard inbetween...onwards and upwards I say...

Thanks for looking!

Awww silly girl - she's looking well though

Hope your elbow/shoulder isnt too sore in the morning ~gentle hug~

Have you thought about maybe just taking her to shows/comps/rides but not taking part, just getting her to settle etc? Obviously depends on what your transport situation is like but the above helped a friend's horse settle down a bit. Think you're doing a very good job with her
grin.gif

i know what you mean about deep going

It was madness i had a borrowed a pony (as mouse has got a poorly leg) for the day, ive only jumped her once before and ive never done RAF Halton before, there was soooo many people and horses

What time were you on ?

Thanks hehe.
Well, we have no transport and have to pay quite a bit to get anywhere, BUT our yard is quite large so has a xc course - when the ground is a little warmer, one of the instructors said he will do group xc lessons - this is chloes problem, she can't go xc in a group without getting so hyped up. Hopefully this will help because I will do it as much as poss. She is fine with the atmosphere after 10mins or so, its just the actual riding that gets to her!
Thank you - I can take no credit though for that!! Her groom(s) have done a fantastic job on her. Makes me a bit sad that it isn't my work really, but to see how she improves in 45mins in a lesson is pretty rewarding!

Hope you're not too sore, and sorry your first outing wasn't brilliant. But hopefully she will be better next time

We were meant to be at 1.00, but queezed in a little bit before I think.
Eeek how did you get on? x

Aww I was there-I was trying to keep an eye out for everyone! It was pretty deep but had a really good time!I ended up getting seperated for most of the ride though as we had to wait at the checkpoint as the girl in front broke her leg!
All the horses were definately on their toes though!Love her facial expression in the last pic!

I was a bit before you (11.52am)
well i would have loved to have taken mouse, but i borrowed a very cute 14.hh pony from work (rda) she has never done anything like this, we had a stop at the first but it was my fault as i don't (or didn't) know her that well so i didn't ride her enough but after that she flew, Bless her heart she was fab and jumped everything i put her at which was all the normal fences and we had a go at some of the bonus fences inc the plane
im looking forward to seeing the pro pics

Well, it was your very first outing, so you should be very proud of yourself.
smile.gif
Chloe is lovely - I like her!

Hope your shoulder feels better tomorrow.

Oh no, poor girl, that is awful!
How was Barney?

Gorgeous horse...I always ride long, so would shorten my stirrups if I were you, it works despite me saying it doesn't!!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes I usually ride very short, but those stirrups felt short to me!! I could probably pop them up one hole, but I always shove my *awful* heels down , which mucks up position a bit! If I re-adjust it it looks two holes shorter, and I won't have even touched the stirrup leathers! Very odd lol but yes, will pop it up a hole next time!

Aww he looks v. smart!!
I am going to the charity sponsored ride @ Berkshire college of agriculture. It is a nice small one, 5.6 miles.
Have been to windsor - I had a blast, but the jumps are in sets of 4 and that is where most people got their refusals - and most of them will be flattened if you touch them LOL! Tis good fun though, some really nice gallopy bits
grin.gif

When is waddesdon

That does look fun! Might look into that actually, will see whether it is closer to sister and co than the berks one!!
photos of the sponsored ride up on monday! Really doubt there are any of me though!

Aww sorry to hear you fell off - keep taking her out to these things, as you settle down she will too and you will have more fun.

Also have lots of baths - that is what I do after I fall.

[ QUOTE ]
Are you doing the BCA sponsored ride in April?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yep, hopefully! Will either do that one of the waddesdon one, depending who far away each one if from my sister who wants to come.

Yeah, it's weird - I am already wanting to take her out again! Will get out as much as poss so it becomes more normal for her.
Should've had a bath the moment I got back, but I waited a while - silly. My arm really, really hurts today. ho hum.

Ouch
frown.gif
Sounds like it was VERY busy there, am glad we didn't go and went to our local one instead as I am not sure I would have been very tolerant with that many people!

Glad you are still upbeat about everything, the next one will be better

Your local one sounded amazing! I am really glad you and P are having what sounds like a blast
laugh.gif

Yes I swear the world and his wife were there - the warmup ring was ridiculously small, with no space to turn at the end of the jump!
It's weird, I am really ready to get on and do another one actually! Cannot wait till the next one!

Liz I feel the same way as you...I want Chloe soooo much more from those giraffey hyperactive pictures than I ever have before!
crazy.gif
Get her out and about as much as time and money will allow...remember how she was when she first came to MEF - to some extent it's just novelty value for her.

Group XC lessons are a great idea...you know who to call if ever you need anyone to make up the numbers!

LOL when you are on here when she is like that, I don't think you will!
tongue.gif

It's true, but she has been hunting all season in Ireland, and a season in England - I just hope it isn't 'set in stone' for her so to speak!
Yes bless my mum, she really loved it, and is already planning for the next one!!
