'Interesting' day at sponsored ride...

We were on at 11.08 but didn't actually get started til nearly 12, by the time I had queued for 20 minutes to check in! It was absolutely packed, OH has only done one sponsored ride before, never done any on his new girl, and we got there and he couldn't believe it! We were worried she would think she was off hunting, as previous owners hunted her with the Vale.
It was pretty boggy in places, we had one stop at about the 2nd fence cos my boy HATES mud, but after that he jumped really well, did most of the bonus and even the plane
grin.gif
which last time I went, he wouldn't go within 100 yards of!
Pro pics are up now...
Here is us hopefully

And who ever said arabs can't jump
wink.gif

Seemed to me like there were a LOT of fallers yesterday, we were held for the ambulance several times, spent ages trying to help catch a loose horse on the airfield at the end, and got SO annoyed with a load of people, had just managed to catch the poor, frightened horse, was standing with him trying to fix his reins in some way so he could be led back, OH was on his horse holding mine, so clearly 2 riderless horses, and these IDIOTS cantered straight past! I did actually scream at them
blush.gif
but they deserved it - I mean, the ambulance was about 50 yards away for the rider, so had clearly been an accident, and who canters past riderless horses anyway??? Grrr.
Anyway, rant over, I had forgetten how nice the jumps are there, quite solidly built and a lot were up to height I thought.
Glad most had a nice day!!
I'm off to wycombe in a couple of weeks, heard a rumour there are no jumps at Waddesden this year

I am glad you had a good day overall then - lovely horse, I love that first picture, very decent sized jump
laugh.gif

How stupid of those people
mad.gif
I was very lucky, most people asked if they could over take me, whether I was okay etc as I was dismounted. But some were bloody rude. You don't ride 5 across on the road and then not move out the way until the last possible second when what is obviously not the best settled horse wants to try and get past you!

Ooh dear about Waddesdon - in that case, won't be going if there aren't any jumps!
Whats Wycombe like?
smile.gif

Thank you, I rather like him too
grin.gif
Not sure how big that jump was - anyone take a guess? I thought maybe about 2'9 - 3'0?
Your girl reminds me off a freind of mine's horse, she looks ever so sweet.
They do settle after you do these rides a few times, just takes a while for them to get used to it! My boy used to an absolute nightmare, jogging, cantering off etc the whole time! But I've been doing a few a year, for 4 years now and he did get better with practice.
Wycombe is OK, jumps aren't nearly as good as RAF Halton, but ride is nice and the river is lovely. It was a rumour about Waddesdon, not sure if it is true or not tho! Would love to know as would probably go to Waddesdon if there are jumps?

We were there yesterday
smile.gif
(well rather Rachskeff was riding my mare) lol...blimey was it busy, think there was supposively about 700 horses there and as someone said the warm up was total madness so our group didnt even bother going in there...saw horses running into each other, people hanging on for there lives, falling of!!

Thought the event wasnt very well organised and we got lost trying to find the blooming place after a 2hr drive there...and thought the point scoring system was a bit useless - yeh like people are gonna tell the truth about that they have jumped - NOT....Anyway Star was fab, apart from a stop at the 1st tiny fence which was more down to the crappy gound in front - she hates bad ground, very clever horsey hehe
tongue.gif
They jumped everything and most the bonus fences which to me looked huge. My Dad and I walked round with the dogs and found places watch...at 1 point a girl jumped over the jump and fell of the other side lol..so I ended up running over and helping her back on, she was fine
smile.gif

Pictures are in the gallery...KatieJaye and Louis were also with us.

Truffles - sorry to hear you didnt have much fun, least next time you can be more prepared. Maybe do what we did and lunge before hand at home and maybe give a dose of calmer. Star can be a little madam sometimes but this seems to work well for us
smile.gif

Shame we didnt organise more of a HHO meet lol, seems there were a few of us there. Emma id say most jumps were about 2'6-2'9 but some of the bonus fences were def over 3ft..:)

Yep, agreed about most being 2'6 - 2'9, wondered what that bonus one where the photographer was heightwise though, it seemed a bit bigger than the nomal one beside it.
Have to agree about the organisation I must admit, although I think it was more to do with the numbers - 700 is crazy! I know more horses = more money for charity, but I swear I saw the ambulance at least half a dozen times, and at one point jumped a brush to find a fallen rider sitting on the floor the other side! It took us riding on to the nearest car to summon an ambulance.
Warm-up - yep, nightmare. OH didn't even try to jump in there as he has big, long-striding horse! I did, but mine can turn on a sixpence - and had to to avoid crashing into a group standing around by the fence!
I got lost too!! Did you try to come in from the weston turville side rather than wendover? There were no signs that way, ended up going right round the block, took and extra 20 mins at least.

Urm think we did come from the Wendover way and there were a few signs but the map we got said turn left so we were looking for left turns and ended up at the actual base on the main road - so had to turn round, go back the same way then turn left...all a nightmare!!

Yeh when me and Dad were walking round we saw a bloke on a horse (marshall) looking for a lost horse etc - my heart was in mouth panicking that is was mine and Rach haha
tongue.gif
Glad you had a good day tho

Oh glad star went well - the ground was pretty horrendous! Had a very honest mare from our yard with a brill rider have a far few stops at the warm up!
tbh shouldn't have gone in the warmup. it probs wound her up even more, but it did give me a little boost to have her jump with ground like that from a trot!
Yeah lol, seems there were more HHO people than I thought!

ETA - Yes, will be deffo looking into a calmer hehe!

Hey, it was my third time at RAF Halton yesterday and thank god Louis behaved! However, the first time I took Louis to RAF Halton he was a little timebomb too! He was completely overwhelmed with all the horses galloping about and we bounced the entire way round and I just about managed to survive!
crazy.gif
It took him a while to get used to sponsored rides but now he has experienced a few he's much better, he's never going to one of those horses who slowley ambles around the course...he likes to do everything VERY fast but he doesn't get so wound up and nervy anymore. Just get out to as many as you can and you'll be calmly going around in no time
grin.gif
Oh and also I always give Louis So-Kalm before we go and normally a lunge in the morning to get all the explosions out before I get on
