Interesting new FEI rules

It's almost like the FEI don't want people to complete! I think they are running scared and are concerned about being sued if someone has a fall on the flat, continues and subsequently has an accident.

So does this mean if you are bucked off in the dressage warm up or go over the head in the SJ warm up you are E, or is it only whilst competing?

The rule just says on the cross-country course so I don't think you'd be eliminated if you fell off in the SJ warm up...

Boss - you beat me to it. Hopefully BE won't try to introduce the fall rule - I guess not as they reversed the one fall and out rule.

The other one that interested me was if a rider is eliminated for 3 refusals or a fall the horse must go back to the lower level. This one is for discussion. I'm not quite sure what the lower level is. Do they mean that the horse has to drop back one level ? Also if say a horse/rider combination have had several XC rounds clear and then have a silly fall (which from the new rule above could be a slip on the flat) it doesn't make much sense in making the horse drop down a level. This is quite different from a horse tackling a new level for the first time and the horse clearly being unhappy. The rule also mentions that this doesn't apply if the rider retires - if this were implemented then we might see a lot of riders retiring on two stops. I'm generally not sure about this, I can see some good reasons for this but also that in some circumstances it is a bit ridiculous. I may have misinterpreted the rules are alternatively they need further clarification.

The most suprising one is that from July if you (or horse) fall anywhere on the course- even not at a jump, it's immediate elimination

Could this be due to Kitty Boggis fall at Pau? She fell on the flat, went to carry on, was told eliminated, started walking back then told she wasn't and could carry on! or something like that!?

Mark Phillips raises some good points in this week's H&H. Especially about 25 pens for breaking frangible pins being ridiculous as they could fail and it be nobodys fault.

It strikes me that xc is being tied up in lots and lots of red tape which is not making the sport any safer.

I havent read that, will do.
The old rule of you're eliminated was even more ridiculous!!

Do they even discuss these rules with a panel of riders?... It seems everytime a new BE/FEI rule comes out HHO users can see the obvious flaws straight away.

Don't these crop up when they are discussing the new rules?...
