Interesting video given recent debates. Horiffic fall at Boekelo.

I think it's fair to say that that could have had very different consequences. I can't believe how long it took for someone to get to her. We FJed her on at least two horses at Osberton a week or so previously and I'd like to think we might have been quicker out of the blocks, though I'm not entirely sure what I'd have done once I'd got there.

Actually I rescind my first impressions. The very first thing someone does (can barely see it in the edge of the picture) is grab the horse and move it away - the horse is staggery and shocked and it was exactly the right thing to do to move it away from the patient immediately.

Dear God, how the hell did she get up from that?!
Lady luck was definitely on Coral's side that day.
Very very scary.

eeek, poor Coral and poor horse, it looked as if it tried to add a stride where there wasn't one. If the airjacket had time to go off (which I sincerely hope it did, but can't tell - was she far enough away to trigger it?) then the extra squish it gave should have helped. Very lucky if it is just her shoulder. Big vibes to her.

Good God - that is awful. What a lucky lady. I'm a fan of my Hit Air, but then, I have been saved from serious injury by it.

Good to hear that horse and rider are both ok.

Urgh! Horrible, horrible fall.

As you've said, interesting given recent debates. Her jacket has definitely gone off by the time the horse lands - we will never know (thankfully) what the outcome would have been had she not been wearing one. Whether her jacket saved her or otherwise - let's just be thankful that on this occasion all is well.

I wish her a speedy recovery. She didn't look to do an awful lot wrong. She sat up through the water, got organised, kicked up the step and then did what we all do (some of us more often than others ;)), took off before her horse - not surprising given that it was obviously supposed to be a bounce!

And interesting bearing in mind the comments about the horses weight coming down on top of her as that was widely discussed in the other post. Soft ground or not, it would look like the horse can down right on her. So lad she is alright.

Would you be advised to replace the jacket after a fall like that? As you would a hat?

i saw this fall on my facebook feed and am astonished she came out 'relatively' okay!! rotational falls are awful.. i dont own an air jacket as not doing a huge amount of competition atm, and i cant tell from video if it went off or not.. no sound on phone, but definately a very lucky pair and i will be investing in one when were out and about more. get well soon vibes to both of them xx

Horrific to watch, very glad both horse and rider are relatively ok.

One thing I did notice on one of the comments under the video, is that Point 2 are now allowing people to pay for their air jackets over 12 months.

Hopefully this will mean more people will be able to afford to buy them.

I will certainly be looking into it.

(Sorry if this is old news but I didn't realise they were doing so until today)

Got to love the marketing machine. I am interested in watching the videos to learn but hate how quickly they appear on a certain website. I just think its crass.

I agree, perhaps I shouldn't have added that bit on to my previous comment.

:o

Completely agree!!

Sorry, but I disagree.

Coral is quoted on the Point two fb page, and I doubt they would quote her without permission. Maybe she would like to spread her message, to allow others to have her point of view so we can make an informed decision.

Lifted :

Coral Keen - "I would like to thank the team at point two for coming up with the air jacket.. I have had one from the early days of production and it has saved me being injured many times over the years and even if it means I'm not so sore that I can then ride my other horses after. But this time it really truly saved my life!
The doctors and nurses were watching in the hospital and said the very same thing. I have a partially collapsed lung and will be very sore for a while but the thought of my injuries without this jacket aren't worth thinking about. Everyone should be wearing one for this exact reason."

Yes the company may make more money from selling more air jackets but equally somebody may have their life saved by deciding to buy one - no bad thing surely?

What a horrific fall. The outcome could have been so tragic. Glad she and the horse are ok.
I havent done much XC lately but next season i hope to be back doing it and i intend to buy an air jacket but am going for the Hit Air not the Point Two.

So glad to hear both horse and rider are ok.

I think the jacket did set off as she fell. I think it was set off because if you watch closely she 'rotated' at a different speed to the horse so at one point there was a bigger gap between the pair of them. I think you can also tell the way the horse lands on her - it doesnt look quite as 'heavy'

After having a rotational fall myself a few years ago I will now not go xc without the best safety kit I can get. Level 3 bp, hs1 hat and a point two air jacket.

I work in theatre/intensive care and have shown the videos etc of point two to my colleagues (an ICU consultant and a consultant orthopaedic surgeon). This was just before I went out and bought one and the response from both was 'Why on Earth dont you have one already?'

Sending healing vibes to Coral :)

This is the first fall they have used that would make me think it was a worthwhile bit of kit. I'm discussing with Al now, and we both agree on that and I'm no longer as convinced against them. Still would rather the other company simply due to the aggressive marketing!

Truly shocking fall, I wish them both a speedy recovery.

Horrible, horrible fall and I wish them both a very speedy recovery.

I have absolutely no doubt that her P2 inflated well before the horse landed on her (despite some of the main objectors still attempting to cast doubt on it). Without the jacket, the rider would have had some very serious damage to her torso - not least from the cantle of the saddle.

As for the marketing by P2, yes I agree, some of it has in the past been overly aggressive, however that should not detract from the potential benefits of the jacket. I also agree with Bubblegum on this occasion their marketing team are simply doing their job. And bl**dy well at that. They are paid to promote this product and what better way of doing it than showing how well the product has worked - however uncomfortable the viewing might be (unfortunately the nature of this particular beast)?

I have tended to stay out of the air-jacket arguments until now. Mainly because I'm bored of the same old arguments being regurgitated time after time after time. However I have worn a P2 for several seasons, and will continue to do so until I'm convinced it's the wrong thing to do.

After seeing this footage I hope some of the nay-sayers will be big enough to eat at least some of their words?
