Well...was quite an eventful weekend of sorts!
On Saturday am, I was due for my first lesson in 3 weeks due to various factors, including Bob having only had one shoe on for 2 weeks! ( farrier!!!!!)
Anyway, instructor rode him first, as she usually does so to warm him and wake him up ( a full hour of me riding bob would kill me!!!)
I also wanted to see what she thought he felt like, as I think he has more energy since upping his feed, but I also felt he had been leaning/resisting me the last couple of times I schooled him.
Anyway, she got on and rode, and after about 10 mins of warm up, he started to work better and seek the contact. However.....after about 20 mins in total being ridden..he was blowing and sweating.
Basically, it's been so mild recently, and his coat is still sooo thick, he just can't cope with working. So , I ended up just walking him off to cool down etc.
We took his temp etc, and he was fine...so decided that we should take his winter woolies off. So arranged to clip him the following afternoon.
On Sunday morning, I decided to accompany my friend out on a quiet hack, as she has had the flu, so her pony hasn't been ridden for over a week. so off we set at a slow walk...and about 10 strides into the hack...I was on the ground!!
I was on the outside track, with other horse on the inside...and a bleedin duck flew right out the hedge next to us. so other pony does massive spook into Bob, who spins and spooks too. I was totally unprepared and got left behind. I managed to hang off the side for a good few seconds ( felt like forever), but my weight ended up pulling on the reins, and Bob looked like he was going to go upwards to escape...so i half fell/half bailed out and landed on my behind in the mud
anyway, luckily there was no real damage done....so up I got and climbed back onboard...carried on on a nice , quiet hack , with me on the inside this time!!!
anyway, Bob got clipped later on, and I think he's going to feel sooo much better for it bless him. He was covered in sweat rashes that were hidden under his thick coat, so he got a nice hot wash with coconut and palm kernel wash. I'll keep doing that every day and try to clear it up.
Anyway, I've posted a couple of vids of him being ridden and then rolling in the pic gallery. Here's the link:
