Im sure most of us who have ever been on a livery yard have experienced it. Had about enough of other liveries thinking its their place to 'discipline' my sensitive horse and all the advice from complete novices which was never asked for!! Would love to hear other stories so I know its not just me going mad.... ;)

What do you mean by discipline my senstitive horse ????

The advice from a numpty novice is greated by an inane grin - i am good at those :D

Tell them in no uncertain terms that they are NOT to touch your horse. You need to also tell your YO/M to warn them to lay off.

I HATE people like this, who they hell do they think they are?

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR..............

Woman who keeps horses at Livery across from my field calls my cob "pedigree chum" yet locks her 4yr old in al week. The other day we met her on a hack nd she smother down at me on my little blob who walked past cool as ice. Hers started nappin and she smacked it round the head with a whip. Always says my lads r worthless at least they do their job. Got an ear full for smackin him round the face cow !

Lol Maybe I should just try one of these....:D:D

My horses behaviour in her stable has changed and she has started kicking & being grumpy. Shes a sensitive mare...(as mares are) and Iv had everyone and their dog shouting at her/folk kicking her stable door/ and suggestions of leaving water for other liveries to throw at her when Im not their.....the mind boggles...

and the funniest thing is. I havent asked for any advice.... :S

Snarl a lot and snap finally. That normally stops people.

Doesn't stop them then gossiping behind your back obviously. But I can deal with that. Means I'm not subjected to listening to it :p ;)

I agree dragonslayer....

Shes my property and no one has any right to interfere with her....I even put a polite notice on board saying please ignore my horse if she is kicking in stable yet tonight I could hear folk shouting at her when I came in. I wouldnt dream of interfering with another persons horse.

Well i would want to know what is happening or whom is teasing my mare - that does not sound like normal behaviour.... and if this has suddenly started i think some one is teasing her, or tieing up out side her stable

Not being funny OP but if your yard is full of other liveries who think it's acceptable to kick a horse's door and throw water at it in your absence - you need to move. I'd not want to leave my horse in that type of environment any longer than I had to. Sounds dreadful.

unforunatly the way the yard is laid out, there can be horses tied outside stable. Funnily enough its when these horses are there and ther owners who do the shouting back etc. when she is worst.

It actually a great yard but we have a few who have some strange ideas but mean well.

Try pointing out to them that by shouting at her and kicking her door theyvare "rewarding" her behaviour by giving her the attention she is seeking? I did that at a previous yard with my mare who was a door kicker and it worked.

Is she kicking her stable door? You could try lining the inside with some old carpet to dull the noise. I must admit, the horse stabled next to mine is a door banger and it does get irritating after a while of listening to it. Not that I'd kick his door or throw water at him, mind you. And I don't see how me, or any of the other liveries sharing the barn, yelling at him would help either. We just have to grumble and mutter and get on with it!

I would ask the ym if i could move stables so that horses are not tied up outside her stable, if that cant happen i would ask that the ym put up a notice to ask folk not to tie up outside her stable - or remove the tie rings.

I have already done this. She is not kicking the door but double barelling and charging the sides of the stable. Yes its noisy and a bit disturbing but at the end of the day she is hurting no one but herself and thats for me to deal with....dont know why any one else thinks its their business.

actually I think I will leave a note on board saying that complaints will be made if anyone caught shouting at my horse. I feel its completely unacceptable.

our last y/o would ALWAYS give her 'advise' on any injury/problem that arose e.g. cut/fly bite.....highly irritating
we never asked for it, never really wanted it, but always got it

she would always discuss with OUR vet OUR horses problems......... apparently theres no client confidentiality!

I find if you ask the interfering busy body why they think you should do that and drill down a bit it normally comes down to "oh so and sos mate who knows someone whos a good rider said thats what you do" or some other rubish. Most of these people don't think for themselves so just challenge them they will feel silly and may just keep there comments to themself.

Simple - take your vet to one side and expalin that you pay the bill, and they are not to discuss your horse in front of the ym ! no ifs no butts - and if they do then they can get her to pay the bill. Whilst smiling sweetly and being really calm.

If i was your livery yard owner i'd think it unacceptable the way your horse behaved in my stable, double barelling it could take the wall down and cause untold damage to your horse and others, let alone the building! Cant you leave her outside if she is so stressed in?

Good idea maccachic :)

I about had had it up to eyeballs!.......

I blacked out the sides of my stable to give my horse 'space' away from the others..it didnt work but tonight I got quizzed about why i put them there and maybe they are the cause of the problem (which is MY problem) and that I should take them down as maybe she feels claustrephobic..................How do u even answer that?

Well, although you may like being there and find most things okay yourself - your horse obviously doesn't agree for whatever reason. You say her behaviour has changed recently. There has to be a reason for this and from what you describe is happening, she is becoming stressed. This would worry me greatly and more so when I know people are kicking my horse's door and think it would be acceptable practice to flick water at her. Eeek. Not sure how that's "meaning well"? Sorry, but your horse is telling you by her behaviour that she is not happy.

I do sympathise, but I for one would not want my mare anywhere near yours, say the next door stable.

Is she upsetting all the other horses?

 OMG, poor horse. That's even worse. She must be extremely unhappy to be behaving like that. You really need to address the issue and not simply ignore it. It's not nothing; she is obviously extremely stressed. Don't just let her carry on like this. It's cruel.

Frankly, I don't know. But I'd try and make things better for her. Speak to YO? Find a field to rent to turn her out in. Or, if you can't and she continues to be SO stressed, I'd find a new home for her where she can be kept in a way that is acceptable to her. Sorry, but there must be a better way of managing your horse's stress.

we moved yards! quite soon after this happened......fed up with interfering busy-bodies thinking they know best about how to handle a tendon injury...despite them (lots of them) never ever having one before :)! read books and know it all

i find the busy-bodies are the ones who never have the guts to do anything with there own horses....but seem to think they know everything about yours!

i no many people say 'just ignore it' but i find it really hard when its MY horse and i want to deal with it how i want.....go deal with your own how you want to deal with a horse.........

anti social person...i know :/

when i read this my only thought is what in her enviroment changed for her behaviour to become upset and grumpy. :( shes ur horse and they have no right kicking her door. if i had my own horse and they did that id be flippig out D:
