My horse had an abscess in her frog about 6/7 weeks ago. Farrier came and said to leave it and not poultice it (she was living out at time). She was going lame intermittently as if shed stood on a stone. Then would be fine next stride and would do this twice maybe on a hack. Rang farrier up whose coming to put heart bars on front feet. She still flinches when I prod her frog. Could this be the reason why she's still intermittently lame.

Also shes slipping on her hind quarters and loses her back feet every now and then. Not sure what this is related to tho. Any ideas?

This really isnt my year.

Could be an abcess, or sensitive sole - whichever it is you need to find out and treat accordingly. Is she shod now? What's your farrier's reason for putting heart bars on the front? Is she shod behind? If yes where is she slipping - on tarmac or everywhere?

She has good feet. Shes shod all round. Farrier said heart bars will give the frog a bit of support. She also trips on the foot where the abscess was. She trips/is lame (like shes stood on stone) on concrete. Doesnt help that lane down to field is stony. Shes fine in field not lame at all whereas she was about a month ago. Vet did come out then and couldnt find anything.

I know you say she's got good feet but with the problems you list there are underlying issues - she was sound a month ago and now isn't. Why does your farrier think the frogs need support?
