I am looking for internal stables plus a tackroom wall& door to be delivered and installed.

So I have trawled this forum - very helpful. Looked at reviews on Facebook also very helpful and contacted a few companies. But I’ve come up with a few problems
1. A few companies don’t seem to want my business??? Won’t provide quotes, take over a week to respond, won’t answer my questions over email, won’t answer the phone. Is this normal??!!!

2. The quotes seem either astronomically high or ridiculously low and bad quality. Eg
For: 3x sliding door fronts
3 x 1/2 grille partitions
A tackroom door & panel
Delivery and installation
Hardwood
Yellow hill equine have quoted £9100
Monarch quoted £8500
Are these quotes the right sort of price??

can someone recommend a good, reliable company that doesn’t charge the earth and provide good quality stables.

the companies I have contacted so far:
Hancox - no reply to emails, won’t answer the phone
Monarch - very slow at replying
Loddon - didn’t reply to initial enquiry but did eventually answer the phone
Stables online- very slow at replying, can’t revise my quote because the man that does it, is onsite but not in the office for two weeks
RSS Yorkshire- no reply
Yellow hill equestrian - quick response to quotes and excellent reviews but when I emailed a long list of questions I was sent the T&C (answered one question) then but told me to call if I had any other questions! I want my answers in writing.

I have heard bad things about vale stables and cheval liberte.
Are there any other companies out there that I haven’t tried??

My aim was to find a good company that would put the stables in, who could quote for an arena to be put in next year.
Im losing faith and starting feel like I’ll get ripped off.
Any advice or suggestions please!

National Stables ? They put a block up for us over 20 years ago and they still look virtually new now - so much so that a couple of years ago I sent them a photo of the stables taken when they were first installed and then a recent one of them after a coat of preserver ( first one in 20 years ! ) and you couldn't tell the difference ! Got a lovely letter back from the owner/director (?) who was the same guy who dealt with my sale all those years ago .

Sounds about what I would expect for Monarch they did my internal stables and windows .
they are really really lovely Stables .
I used the plastic not the wood , the plastic costs a bit more .
They deliveries when they said they would fitted everything efficiently , the men where lovely to have about neat and tidy workers .

I agree with Goldenstar. The only company I could get to quote was Monarch. I also had the plastic boarding and the whole thing is of a very high quality. I think you are going to have to budget £8-10 K tbh.

Have you tried Easten Equestrian?

That sounds about right to me. I wouldn’t use anyone other than Rower and Rub now for internal boxes, but you could also look at Loddon.

We had monarch panels and doors added to create stabling in our our concrete barn and I think that sounds about right cost-wise unfortunately. The quality is really good though. OH’s clinic uses Lodden and have no complaints.

Many moons ago one of my OH’s family members made and sold internal stabling called “tubby boxes”. It was a bit rough and ready, but 30+ years on it’s still going strong at the old livery yard! Sadly no longer in business though ☹️

I have been talkimg to prime stables about outdoor stables... the person who I have been dealijg with is really nice and helpful.

Would your local engineering/fabrication workshop quote you for it ?

Was just about to suggest that too and/pr a joiner.

We've got monarch internals (there when olds bought the place) and they seem to be really high quality.

Theres a second hand market for internal stables so if that's an option it might be worth joining some fb pages. Our plan is to put external stables up next year so I'm hopeful the internals will sell.

Try Stables on line, they did two stables and a door for 3K customised to wanted ie didn't want grills at front just open stables. I have the wood effect I think its made of bamboo really hard wearing doesn't rot and you just wipe it down to keep clean. For what I wanted they were really good for the money and great I could customise to what I wanted.

Our stables were made by a fabrication company who designed and manufactured them. The wood slats slide into position...approach local metal fabricators ..they may be pleased to learn there skills could be used in the equine industry.

I got a local joiner to put my 3 internal stables up. I bought the doors but in fact it would have been better if he had made them.

I did get a quote from Broadfield stables and had a long chat with their sales guy - Tim. Worth a call. 3 stables with grilles worked out about £5.5k. I would have gone with them but the lead time was too long and the horses needed to come in at night urgently.

Also have a pretty comprehensive price list online so you can work out a rough price yourself before approaching.

So I did get stables in the end, but couldn't justify the prices Monarch and other companies were charging.

I decided to try fb marketplace and grabbed an absolute bargain. I bought 1 Monarch front panel (sliding door) and 3 Monarch grilles+ sliding doors (which are designed for block work) for £500.

I ended up with 3 big stables 18x17,18x12, 18x16 plus tackroom 18x7 all for about £7000 all in.

Having been through the process, my advice is to get quotes from the big companies, then try second hand!

I inherited 8 nearly new Tubby boxes when we moved to our current house/yard and they are still going strong :)

Ah that’s lovely to hear! I kept my pony in one for many years and it was very robust ? we’ve got monarch stabling at our new yard, which I’m not actually a huge fan of. We ended up getting a local carpenter to subdivide our biggest stable as neither monarch nor Lodden could understand what I wanted (a Shetland pen within a bigger stable!)

We bought 2nd hand Monarch stables off Ebay and got them to fit the barn with a builder setting them up for us. Worked out half the price for 8 stables, tack room and feed room.

Wow, that seems an incredibly high price for what is essentially seven galvanised and hardwood panels! ?

8-10k for 7 panels! Are they gilded in gold or something?!

Recently, I’ve been quoted 350 euros for 1 galvanised panel: steel cladded and box steel frame.

No 8-7K for 5 panels!! Absolutely ridiculous prices for something that creates 3 12x12 stables

What are tubby boxes? Ive never heard of them before. I've tried to google and it came up with a cardboard box.

as I understand it they were a novel and affordable (for their time) way of creating internal stables within existing farm buildings. The family member who invested them was nicknamed “tub” hence “tubby boxes”. Although fairly unglamorous (!) they were still going strong about 30 years later at the livery yard I was on previously!
