I'm considering transporting my 3 horses from Italy to England summer 2012.

Does anyone have any recommendations for transport companies?

I'm all new to transporting across countries so any tips would also be welcome :)

Thanks!

Another vote for John Parker and his team. Have used them a couple of times the last to bring our young 4 year old KWPN stallion home to UK from Holland. Wonderful door to door service. He came over on shared load arrived chilled and looking great inspite of having had 3 nights on the move. Staff looked after him very well. Took time to tell us how he had travelled. They had other horses on the load when they arrived here and took the stop with us to water and hay up. Was very impressed and would use them again.

Another who comes highly recommended is LOC International Horse Transport.
I have used them in the past for transporting my mares and stallions and they are first class.
Horses come off the lorry very happy.

Another vote for John Parker. They brought a friend's two horses back from Finland and despite the 3000 mile journey they stepped off the lorry like they'd come from 30 miles down the road. I was impressed with how the staff had built up a really good relationship with two horses that aren't the easiest!

Hi,

I've moved my boys several times from Italy to England/Germany and used different transporters - best by far was an Italian transporter (former eventer himself - a lovely person and the horses never looked better, I cannot recommend him highly enough. Far cheaper than the big names too!) who does regular trips to Germany/Holland, can give you his number via PM but not sure he goes all the way to England - at least not on a regular basis.

From Germany to England I was very happy with Parkers :)

In terms of paperwork, my only advice is to plan ahead as Italian bureaucracy, unsurprisingly, is beyond description and the same papers that I always sent via email in Germany had to be signed and re-signed and stamped and re-stamped by ten different people in Italy at the ASL (I am not exaggerating - the paperwork is the same throughout Europe, but in Germany it took me 1 afternoon to arrange the State Vet's visit in the form of 1 phonecall and 1 email, in Italy 1 week and several trips to the local ASL myself to chase the vet, who then did not even bother to actually see the horses) so do plan ahead and leave plenty of time to get everything sorted.

Parkers all the way, I used to work for them and would def recommend them as the horses are generally well looked after. There are other transporters to avoid who I personally know journey the horses for far too long and do not water the horses regularly enough, I would rather transport my horse myself than send them with anyone else.

Thanks for the advice :)
Would you be able to PM me of who to avoid?
Unfortunately transporting them myself isn't an option :(
