I should have my horsebox back tomorrow (exciting!) and we’re going to have our first outing to the gallops with the 5 year old…

i really want to get her fitter over winter, but no idea where to start with interval training! what durations/order would be a good starting place?

How fit is she just now?
What's her general weekly riding schedule?
What is your end goal with her? (How fit do you want her to be)
not very fit at all, very light work! i’m very conscious that i need to start very basic haha, she’s a lovely weight just baby-unfit

she’s not going eventing or anything, but hoping to do more with her next year so she needs to be fit enough for a couple of ridden showing classes in a day, or a couple of showjumping rounds, etc! i’m taking her to camp in june, so starting our preparations very early🤣

A basic program would be suitable for your requirements then.

This is a good atart and explains it well.

Starting slow and steady and gradually building up.
The rule I now use is increase either the distance or the speed but not both together.

Highly recommend these two books. Easy to read and really helpful for knowing thr hows and, most Importantly, the whys.

They're generally around £3 on ebay/amazon

Not dry or hard going and very easy to fly through. The first book especially helps with looking at fitness holistically.

This book is much older but there is a good fitness plan in it, it covers interval training iirc and heart rate for fittening work
