I am in the process of arranging transport for two horses to mainland Europe.

Imagine my shock on reading the Terms and Conditions to see that in the small print the transporter has no obligation to feed or water the horses. As they are likely to be in transit (with overnight stay) for two days this is quite shocking.

When I emailed the company questioning the legality of this clause they did not respond?

That is shocking. I hope that although they are under no obligation, that they do water them. Think I would steer clear of them. Any chance you could PM me the company please? Thanks.

I have had a number of horses transported from Europe and have argued this on a number of times.
I have never won and all my horses have arrived dehydrated. One horse was shipped to compete in europe for a week and never got to the show ... Kept him in halfway stables as too dehydrated to compete after paying them £1,200 to transport !!
Have since travelled horses myself and easily fed and WATERED them in transit without a problem.

I had a young stallion arrive here in France in March who I was told would not drink on route when he went home (he was on loan) I provided a bucket of well watered sugar beet which the driver diluted even more. He didn't have a problem going home but I was dealing with the driver directly.

What shocked me about the conditions was the fact that all these transporters claim to be professionals who will look after our horses and they hide things like this in the small print.

I intend to take this up with DEFRA Many of us are campaigning for better treatment of horses transported to slaughter - time we got our own house in order!!

You mean this is common?
