I plan on doing the Intro B test next month and memorized the test last night BUT I have one question, it's says:
At A, circle right 20 metres and allow the horse to stretch, taking up the reins before returning to A.

My numpty question is, how long do I allow Hattie to stretch before taking up the reins?

Do I allow her to stretch from:

1) A to X and then start taking my reins back as I pass X?

2) As I'm coming away A and starting my circle, at K allow her to stretch and let her do so until X or just after X, and then take my reins back?

3)Or do I allow her to stretch pretty much the whole circle and take reins back at F before getting back to A again?

I'm kinda leaning towards option 2 as our circles are pretty cr*p and at least if I start the circle with some rein contact, at least we can begin our circle correctly, LOL!

Any suggestions please would be greatly appreciated as I don't have an instructor at the moment and this is the part of the test that is worrying me.

If it does say "give and retake" then normally this is a very clear give away of the reins for at least 3 consecutive strides - performed over X

anybody else?

you allow the horse to stretch for the whole circle and take them back so you are back in normal working trot on your return to A

so option 3.

I agree with Ester - pretty much the full circle, taking up the reins just before you're back at A. If I remember correctly (but I could be wrong!) there is no "free walk on a long rein" in this test - so the stretch on a circle replaces the traditional free walk across a long diagonal.

Thanks guys, there is also a free walk on a long rein as well in this test. The circle and stretching part is done at the working trot so I guess this test is testing the stretching aspect of riding. LOL, unfortunately with Hattie, giving her the reins means going into plod along pace
