Just wondering if anyone did any of these last year - mum's forwarded me a letter to say I'm eligible to do 2 (was 1st and 2nd in 2 intros last year).
Anyhow, I don't have my rulebook at uni with me - how many people qualify - are they usually very big sections? I imagine they are very competitive, and a bit of a dressage competition?
If I can fit them in round my exams (finals, eeek!) it might be something good to aim for. I think the only two within driving distance from me really are West Wilts and Ascott u Wychwood - anyone had any experience good/bad of these venues?
Thanks

both are fab - Ascott-U-W is the best - olne of the best run and layed out events I have been to. The ground is fab and a great variety of jumps. SJing isn't too bad either.

Yes go for it!!! Gives u something to aim for. No professionals are allowed to do them, so should all be ameateurs (sp?)!!! If u have been 1st and 2nd I'd say ur dressage should be pretty good already!!! The IRF are normally only normal section size but the final can be lots of people!!
Good luck!!!

i did an IRF at Ascott-under-wychwood last year and it was great, Ascott is lovely, great SJ and XC and quiet dressage arenas and just really friendly. There were 2 sections of 40people in each and approximately the top 10 qualify so its not too difficult but you do need to go double clear to definitely be in with a chance

Good luck if you go - the final is brilliant so hopefully you'll qualify

We did Broadway and came 2nd and then 6th in the huge final. It is a dressage comp .to be honest as nearly everyone goes double clear but it is worth doing .
We are doing prenovice regional this year and think that will be even more of a dressage comp. but we are not doing any novices until after regional just in case we get a point [ shame they don't allow a couple of points at prenovice regionals.
Good luck

I did Ascott-Under-Wychwood last year as well and thought it was a lovely event. I agree that it is basically a dressage competition as most people go double clear - I had an explosion in the dressage and ended up on (I think) 39 penalties then went double clear but finished well down the order. We had a great time though and everyone was very friendly - plus I watched Hattikins showjump! Have fun!

I did the IRF at Stratford Hills in 2005. Our dressage is normally rubbish but somehow we ended up with the best score and clear in the jumping and so won the class

But at the Champs our dressage went back to being rubbish (though was a bit miffed when we slipped everytime in the cow-pat at 'A'), and we came about 37th !!!!

Was brill just to be there though!

Thanks for all the info

Sounds like it might be something good to aim for - It should fit in quite nicely, as I'm hoping to do 2 PN when I'm home at Easter, then he'll have a bit of a break whilst I have exams. W.Wilts and Ascot fall just after exams so we could go to one/both to get back into the swing of things again!
