Introducing a horse to being bathed/having legs hosed?

I thinks its best to start with the bucket and sponge, then build up from there i.e spaying the hose around the feet and graduly going up the leg and onto the body. I personally always use the bucket but thats just me.

I usually start with a hose, start spraying it away from them and then slowly take it towards them spraying there hooves/bottom of legs and gradually working up to their neck. Even if they dance around a bit I keep the hose on them so they realise they can't get away from it and it isn't going to hurt them. They are always tied up at the time.

Never really had any problems, it's something I expect them all to behave for and usually once they get over the initial shock of getting wet they start to enjoy it.

When you use the hose, keep it on them if they move. Take the hose away as a reward not the other way round. Works a treat on my youngster when we started, also works for clipping too.
