Just over a week ago a beautiful boy made his way to my livery yard, probably led my his nose and ears, smelling food and hearing company.
The YO rang the Greyhound Trust but they were full so the next step was to take him to the local dog rescue kennels ( which dont have the best reputation) So I rang my OH and he came to meet him and agreed we would take him to the vets to get him scanned for a microchip and he could stay with us if the Vets saw fit.

Well he didnt have a chip and the vets were more than happy for him to come and stay with us. I have notified the local council 'dog warden' or dog lost register and vets and have to hold him for 28 days. I have searched the web, dogslost website, other pet sites with no luck as to tracing his original owner :(

Now before I post pics he is emaciated, his age has been guessed at about 4 years old but I think he is older. He is very sweet, lovely with kids and gets on with my Mop dog Jessie :D

So introducing
Blue

So thats Blue.
If he is not claimed we will offer him a home for life, but the laws on strays are very odd, as in even after 28 days if he is not claimed and say 6 months down the line someone could turn up and say 'thats my dog'....although theyd have a hell of a lot of explaining to do and possibly have a hefty bill to pay or they can sign him over to us:D Anyhoo......

Thanks for looking:D

He is gorgeous:eek::) as is your Other dog:D he will look fabulous when he gains some weight and indeed someone would have a time getting a dog back from me after 28 days esp if they could not prove they searched the earth for it and it would most certainly have an expensive ongoing medical issue if they did, diabetes and heart defects are not all that uncommon and cost a heck of alot to treat;):p

He is one VERY VERY lucky boy, good on you for taking him (he would only have landed in the local pound) hats off to you and my respect.:)

he looks lovely now, what an amazing difference ....lets hope he stays with you, looks like he has settled in well.....well done to you and oh for taking him on...

Gorgeous.
Lovely of you and your OH to take him on, it looks like he's really landed on his feet (or back on the couch!) :D

Good on you for taking him in, he looks so much better, I bet he thinks christmas has come early.
Although I reckon anyone would have struggled to say no to that 'sad puppy' face he's pulling in his tank top... :p

God, poor b*gger!! So thin. Just bizarre isn't it, you wonder where on earth they've come from.

Hope he has fallen on his feet with you now as, as you say someone's got a lot of explaining to do if they try claim him now! That's a dog that's not had a proper feed in a while surely? Then again I guess if he was someone's lost pet he could get in a state like that but the fact he's come to a yard would suggest he's not a nervy dog so iwn't likely to have been roaming for long. Screams of a dog havig been dumped doesn't it :(

Right time of year for it :(

We get alot of lurcher in this state, generally it's from the young lads who use them for hunting who have no means to pay for their keep or vet bills and keep them on allotments/in sheds as parents don't even know they have them, and the dogs get out (escape) or are let out and discarded of being fed and inadequate or no diet at all. Also the ones that have gotten lost out hunting and roamed around for weeks before found or give in to hunger and make their way out of the wilderness lol. In this weather they dont keep weight on to long. Esp saluki types.

I joined a Lurcher forum during one of my many searches and a few have guessed his breeding as Greyhound/Whippet/Saluki...possibly :P they say he may be easier to identify as he gains weight. He isnt particularly big, measures 22-23" tall at the shoulder and from chest to bum is 25".

It has been suggested he was possibly used for illegal coursing but hes so well behaved Im not so sure?! :S

I thought saluki x whippet when looking at him, they are pretty quiet/calm dogs even when worked to be fair, make lovely quiet pets and love comfort and are hard enough to keep weight on without being starved:(

Hes thoroughly enjoying his 3 meals aday of chicken and rice, hes also slowly had some dry dog food added which he really seems to like. hes very polite, even in his starving state he doesnt pinch food off my son, if you say NO he doesnt try again. very clever doggy! :)

you always do wonder what their history is. We found a dog dumped on our track at our stables a few years back - had an injured leg but was not a local dog so it wasn't one that had just been hit by a car as far as we could tell. We could only assume it had been chucked out of a car. So sad but we rehomed it after no owners could be found and it's still with the neighbours now.

A girl at my flyball club has a dog she rescued that used to be used as a bait dog - so awful. She has scars all over but is such a lovely dog now (she greyhound x). Just horrid to think how some people abuse these animals :(

From what Cayla said I did wonder how quickly these dogs could lose weight in this weather. You always do wonder if someone's looking for them. Just wish everyone chipped their dogs!!

I think he is a very lucky boy to have found you! Good on you for taking him in too and I am sure he will bloom with you (and you get to keep him ;))

What a lucky dog to have found you and very sensible too.:) He is looking really well in such a short time and your other dog is gorgeous, I do hope you get to keep him because he deserves a home like yours and well done for taking him in.

Bless well done, mums last dog was a stray we found her crying in the street. Vet thought she might have been thrown from a car. We thought she wouldn't last the night, she lasted 17 years.

Looks very sweet, so kind of you to take it in.
We have quite a few wandering dogs that turn up on the farm that are obviously coursing dogs and as a general rule the dogs are much nicer and much better behaved than their owners!
