Meet Boots :D She is just over a year old now. I *believe* she is by Tanyscroft Toastmaster, if this is true then her great great grandsire is Samber.
Here she is

Shes very layed back and chilled, shes been so kool with everything i've asked of her so far :D

I want to show her inhand next summer in a coloured class. More for the experence than anything else. She isnt a true cob so i would have to trim and plait her for this. Her mane will need pulling if this is the case and for some reason she overly objects to this. I think she might have had it pulled before as its quite straight and she deffently knows what you are going to do if you go to pull it, even just one strand of hair and she objects to it by trying to swing round and shaking her head. How can i over come this? Is there anything else i can do to thin and shorten her mane so its ok to plait?

Also what should i show her in? I guess as a 2 yr old it would be an inhand bridle? What bit should i use for this?

On a different suject. She is good to catch but she always approaches me in the field with her ears back, like this

She is fine once shes by you but she just approaches with her ears back. I was told when i bought her that she had been spoilt with food as a baby and was abit 'what have you got for me?' but i was hopping she would get better. Is there anything i can do to overcome this or is this just her now?

Want to see more pics? :D

What a nice filly, she sounds very trainable too. :)

I wouldn't worry as she isn't biting or doing anything bad. Just carry on as normal and she'll probably come round in her own time.

She is lush!! Love her!!

Have you tried putting up a haynet whilst pulling? Horlicks hates her mane being pulled, but she LOVES her hay, so as long as she has hay to munch, she will "put up with it". If not, you could use a twitch or you can by a paste that serdates them, think its called Sedaline??

With regards to the ears back, when you go to the field for her, do you always bring her in? Maybe go and see her a few times, say hello, and then walk away, but don't look back. That way she will learn that just because you are coming over to say hi doesn't mean grazing time is over. That what the ars back might mean (Oh no, time to come in, humph)

Bridle for showing - I would use a plain snaffle (no flash noseband) and a happy mouth snaffle of some sort... like a straight bar? whether that is right for showing though, I couldn't say?

Thank you guys, i will try having a fiddle with her while she has a haynet then.

I see her everyday but only bring her in about 3 times a week and thats only to be groomed really. I did think that not bringing her in might help, also giving her a little scratch while in the field as she dost enjoy it but not having much luck yet. Hoping that she will grow out of it.

Gorgeous horse, as for the ears back, it's probably just a habit, our
gelding has done it since we bought him, along with head low down,
but he is a total softy, good luck with Boots at shows, I have seen
mane thinners which don't involve pulling, never tried them though
