We got him at 8 weeks and he is proving to be a very well balanced pup indeed.

The pic is from the other day and he is currently just over 4 months old. Any tips and tricks for owning a JRT would be much appreciated as this is the first time owning a Terrier let alone a JRT. (he's the dream though)

I'll try to share how he progresses and some of his adventures with you guys.

Sorry for the picture size!!!!!!

I can't see the picture but JRTs are the best - once you go Jack, you'll never go back! I think the most important thing with Jacks is that they're all individuals and have a wide range of characteristics, no two of ours have been the same but all have been wonderful, loyal, happy dogs - some more trainable than others!

If OP had asked me before getting a JRT, I would have said 'don't!'. :p:D Ours were both very characterful, happy dogs, who made us laugh and swear regularly..

I'm sure he's lovely OP, although I can't see the photo, I'm sure you'll have fun with him.

cant see a photo......i have a terrier cross and he is the most lovable chap but has a mind of his own. luckily he loves food so training recall wasnt too bad but sometimes he doesnt come immediately and it is very frustrating. i had forgotten how cheeky terriers are as had a lurcher and a collie cross who were completely different..

Terriers. Hmmmn. Big personalities in a little body (apart from Airedale’s) ?. Love ‘em. Great fun, frustrating. They’re like the naughty kid in school who’s a PITA but you like them regardless.

Love the name, "Kano". Its actually a real-live place, in Africa; Nigeria, up in the North East bit. I've been there!! We landed there on a stop-over flight a good few years ago now. I remember the heat when the plane doors opened! - and the gorgeous African spicey smell. Wonderful!
Ooo I never knew that, tbh we named him after the British rapper ahah, also never met a dog called Kano which is a bonus. Thanks for the fun fact though

What a lovely chap, he’ll keep you on your toes!

Welcome to the HHO JRT owners and fan club, there’s quite a few of us on here.
I’ve been reading lots of post in here about them and they have all been really insightful. Thanks for such a warm welcome

He is gorgeous! As you’ve probably seen, I adopted my first ever terrier a few months ago.....

all I can say is ‘shut up’ is the most important command you will ever teach him ??

Merry Christmas ?
You say that but he hasn’t starting barking yet, other than the occasional one but when it was appropriate. Now I’m expecting this to change but maybe just maybe I might be lucky? ?

What a delight!
I have two terriers and they are amazing. They aren’t scrappy with other dogs or yappy at all, they are really lovely dogs.
They don’t listen sometimes, they’re independent minded and often squabble between themselves but they really are excellent. Give them a bit of what they enjoy every day (bushes, digging, puzzles) and they’re happy ?

Kano has only just starting to brave any distance between us and him. Can’t wait to see him running in and out of the bushes and digging.( I say that now while it’s not happening ahaha)

He is gorgeous! I'm another fan of terriers and jrts especially. They're fun, merry, affectionate, got minds of their own, into anything and everything, very no-nonsense dogs - by which I mean they aren't fussy eaters, don't need much grooming, live a long time and are hardly ever ill (at least, that's the experience I've had).

Our last JRT used to bark like crazy, and wee up the curtains - he was a rescue and was otherwise delightful. he left a huge gap when he got out and got run over...Our current JRT x patterdale cross is affectionate, playful, friendly, well balanced and above all quiet!! She almost never barks, she's the sweetest little character. I'm a huge JRT fan :-)
