I adopted him from a staffie rescue last thursday. He is 19 months old and so sweet, well worth the 6hr round trip :D

He has slight itchyness and scabbyness but to be expected and hoping its due to the cheap food and stress. However he is in great condition for a rescue dog straight from kennels :)

These pics were taken the day I collected him and after I bathed him :cool:

He is settling in amazingly well - slept through every night in his cage :D quietly :eek: he gets on with my old staffie bitch very well (she taught him respect his elders :o)

He is now on a good diet with tlc and hoping his skin comes good. However we have discovered his 'problem' :( If dogs approach him too close and too fast he opts for an aggressive response :(

He is learning quick but whilst walking have to be alert - his subtle signs are easy to read :rolleyes: I am however looking for a decent leather muzzle for safety during busy walking periods :(

He absolutely adores people especially people that come round to visit him :p He has the usual bad habits of jumping and smacking with his paws :rolleyes: but working on that.

The best bit is he has a proper bark like a big dog :D:D:D so that will keep the strangers away :D
 
What a smile...he know's he's landed on all 4 paws with you!! Absolutely gorgeous and fantastic of you to have rescued a staffy!! :D
 
Buddy is lovely and well done you for rescuing this very striking boy.

He is a handful as you know but he can be turned around with a lot of hard work and I know you are up for it.
 
im not usually a staff person but he is a very nice looking sort isnt he?

Bad habits are easy enough to get him out of, but Do invest in a muzzle as soon as you can, just to cover your own back and make sure everyone is safe :)

I just can't believe he was abandoned :( He has such a sweet nature

I actually spoke with 5 other staffie rescues before finding the rescue kennels where Buddy and 2 other possibilities were. I was aiming more for the smaller kennels opposed to the more commercial like dogs trust etc. I was also looking for an older staffie bitch but Buddy was 'the one' :cool:

Admittedly I am amazed at just how quick he is learning and VERY pleased :D

Ironically my first staffie was dog aggresive - had been encouraged to fight which I managed to turn him around so fairly confident Buddy will get there, just time, patience and consistency :cool:

I currently have a baskerville muzzle for him but Im not keen on it but have found a nice airy leather one so just gotta measure him so I can order one :)

If he becomes agressive when strange dogs approach him but is fine with ones he knows (like your bitch), he might be slightly on the passive aggresive side i.e will warn others off before they get too close. My staffie boy was attacked as a puppy (has a permanantly damaged eye duct) as a result so can get a bit of what I call "little man syndrome" with strange dogs. However if i can ask someone to walk theirs alongside mine, he quickly relaxes and thinks they are OK.

A bath with some Malaseb should sort out the flakiness plus a better diet - my bitch had that when I got her.

Lovely pictures and so nice to hear of a staffy being rescued!

Luci07 - thanks for reply :) He has been on a good diet since I got him (fish4dogs and salmon oil) and bathed him in a Groomers vet grade which has evening primrose oil in. He seems better and the redness has reduced, just still scratching lots but also he's only been with me 5 days :eek::D

I was informed he can be nervous of dogs and tends to show agression. If it nervousness or not Im not sure, often appears too be but not always. I do get the impression he has been encouraged though :(
