Been trying to source a friend for Murray after we lost Keaton on Friday. It’s been difficult to find a single boar who isn’t too old. Ideally I wanted one similar age to Murray, but had no luck. Then last night an advert popped up on preloved for an 8 month old boar needing a new home and a friend. Younger than I wanted but they said he was a big lad and I decided to give it a go.
So today I collected him. He’s very skittish to handle, but he’s quite bold and confident in himself now he’s found his feet. He looked absolutely traumatised for the first couple of hours! Did intros on the lawn for a few hours and all went well. They’ve now moved inside and are being watched closely. Emergency cage is ready incase it’s needed but so far things are going well.
Murray looked a bit shell shocked to begin with but he’s curious now.
They will spend the next few days inside overnight until I’m happy they are ok and then they will move out to the summer hutch.

Everyone meet Phineas

I hope they form a good bond and enjoy each other's company, it sounds like you've got them off to a good start. They are very cute too :)

How are they doing today?

We had a blip last night unfortunately. After being fine together from midday to 9pm, Phineas started chasing Murray. Left them and watched them closely to see if they would calm down again but the teeth chattering got quite bad and Murray started to panic. Separated them for the night so they are next door to each other but can’t get at each other and I will try again with the intro in a neutral space tomorrow. I’m hoping this was just a minor blip and that I can get get them back together.

Good news, boys are back together. Had some garden time after work and reintroduced. Bit of chasing but nothing major and once Murray stopped running, Phineas just pushed his bum lightly with his head and I think Murray was quite surprised that was all he did.
Now back together in the indoor cage in my room where I can keep a vigil overnight.
