Just thought I should pop in and introduce myself before I go asking desperate questions across the rest of the forum!

Mum to a pony mad 8-year-old boy (as well as a less interested teenager!), with a gang of 5 horses all at home - rode and loaned throughout my teenage years, gave up when finances got too tight after leaving home, have ridden a handful of times since. Bought a house with land, intended to sort everything out and then dip my toe back in the water of the equestrian world after a break of about 20 years - then neighbour "gave" (dumped) an elderly Welshie with us. That then snowballed into a rescue TB companion, a pacer, a Welsh x cob and now a younger Welshie for my son to get out and about and have some fun with, now he's really got the bug.

I've been a long-time lurker on H&H, and the advice and information I've picked up to update my rusty brain has been invaluable. Now we're starting to look at getting out and about, I'm sure I'll be picking more brains very soon.

Hello Rumtytum :) It felt appropriate - I've loved Welsh ponies in all their forms since childhood, and now have three Welsh/Welsh crosses in the happy gang! Not to mention that I ended up marrying a Welshman and having two children with Welsh names who most definitely identify as Welsh (in spite of living nowhere near Wales now!)

Do you or your children speak Welsh? It’s a beautiful, lyrical language even though I don’t understand a word ha ha. My birth surname was Evans and my riding school horse (love of my life, he’s in my avatar) is a Welsh D.

Not a word, embarrassingly. Well, I know "stop" and "police"... and could probably find my way to the toilet in signs if I needed to! I understand the principles of the pronunciation, but that's about it. And my husband doesn't speak a word apart from the words to the national anthem... he does randomly watch the rugby on S4C sometimes, even though he only understands about 1 word in 20 of the commentary! I do love the language, as you say, it's so lyrical. Would love to learn it one day.

I love that - I only know "stop" from seeing it on the road so many times around where my mother-in-law lived! thank you for the welcome
Finally worked out how to change my avatar as well, this is the newest Welsh addition to the gang who joined us in July
