My new loan ponio.
As some of you may recall i've been looking for a long term loan of a been there done that sort of horse about 15hh + heavy cob type. safe in traffic etc.
Since I announced I was looking for a loan, I've received all sorts of negative comments about how I should just wait till I can affoard to buy one, I'm just wasting peoples time loaning etc. which I feel has been uncalled for. especially as it's been from so called friends. I have a field available to me, that I pay for. I am only looking to loan not buy as, when I lost both my and my son's pony, it was due to old age - therefor not insured. But still had bills etc to pay. Also If I got a good loan then I would not be handing it back when I have the money saved to buy, I would hold onto it as long as the owner was happy for me to but this didn't seem to wash with some.
A good loan horse is hard to come by (especially as I was looking for a steady neddy which is what eeryone wants), and had a few let downs of viewing something that was not what was advertised. A true friend of mine said to stop looking, everyone knew I was and the right one would find me. As soon as I stopped looking, I was inundated with offers of loans, all of which would have been suitible. After a weekend of riding more than I had since 2010 (boy I was sore) I had to make a decision. did I go for the steady neddy cob..........................
Nope. I went for this
my rising 4, bum high, highland gelding.
His back end is currently standing at 14hh his front end 13.1hh he's not 4 till next month, but was backed at the end of last summer and has been hacked away.
He arrived on Friday 13th after loading and travelling beautifully he is now well settled and in with his field mates, he's eating loads and starting to fill out (he still has a lot of growing to do) we've done a couple of in hand walks and I've spent loads of time grooming him to get to know him, well as much as you can in a short period of time.
We had a great exercise plan worked out for this week (for both me and him) with in hand walks, long reining etc. but i'm now laid up with a horrendous virus that means I can only crawl from my bed to the sofa and thats it...... I collapsed after a shower this morning as I had been standing for too long
Thankfully my field share is checking on him and is going to do some of the work I had planned for him this week for me shes an angel
anyhow, another photo for you......
