Henry has proved this morning that he has no killer instinct whatsoever...
I have to go to London to today so Henry is home alone
Hence why I am up so ridiculously early - so we can go for a superlong walk before I have to get the train.
I'm not relishing the idea of leaving him alone at all (although he's fine to leave, just don't like doing it!) so was half awake by 5.30am anyway, then heard what sounded like Henry battering on the kitchen door. 'How strange' thinks I, 'that's the first time he's done that in a while! Am I imagining things?'
So crawled down at 6am, Henry was incredibly excited to see me charging round and even barking (which went down really well with the neighbours I'm sure!)
Then I walked into the kitchen, and what should confront me.....
A large baby blackbird sitting on the floor chirping!
It must have got in last night before we went to bed as the back door was open as it is so warm here. It was alive and well, Henry must have been staring at it all night but had not eaten it
Unfortunately it then ran into a gap at the end of the unit and under the cupboards
So then I had to lie flat on the floor, wiggles my head and arm into the gap and coax it out with the dustpan brush, while Henry (who by this time had been shut into the living room) screamed hysterically about missing all the fun
Bet the neighbours love us right now
So the invader has now been evicted into next door's garden where hopefully it will be safe, saw it's mum watching me as it was calling to her so hopefully it will be ok!
This is not the way to start a morning
And now, to finish, a gratuitous picture. Hopefully Henry will imitate this picture and catch up on his sleep today after evicting his new lodger
