Farrier has suggested this for feet in order to help combat foot thrush and softness this winter. Mums concern is that pure iodine might be too strong - what do you suggest?

I use iodine on my lad - I use the 10% stuff when he has thrush and there has never been any side effects. I mix it with sugar and pack it into his feet when he is stabled overnight. If you are concerned though you can buy iodine 2% strength

As I said I O D I N E

Purple spray is not Iodine. Iodine is a yellowish in colour liquid which is an antiseptic agent, used in surgery and to clean scientific equiptment.

You can get Iodine spray (the above) in saddleries.

Same as A1fie. My farrier told me to mix with sugar as makes it stick more so more time spent soaking into the foot. I got the Iodine from Boots.

Iodine is good, and always a must have in the medical box but if his feet are soft I would def get some pevadine from your vet - you only need a tiny amount so it lasts and is by far the most effective. It also encourages regrowth of the frog.

Can be used as a scrub or equally effective if you syringe it into any cracks or crevises. It certainly saved one of mine from having to have surgery on his frog when it collapsed around a growth

Hydrogen Peroxide diluted with water, 1 cap to 10 caps water I think. It fizzeles like mad, which will bring the gunge out, when it starts to run clear you know it's all gone and go on from there

ah.... I was intending on buying from the tack shop for prevention reasons, Cornucrescine Daily Hoof Barrier. Anyone rate it?? Or waste of moo-lah? Would you use iodine as a prevention or cure?

use idodine have had v good results but I woild never ever use hydrogenperoide on feet. It has been banned from use for human pts so in my opinion what is not good enough for us is not good enough for my horses. Research has shown it has side effects
