Anyone know of a nice place with good hacking where I can put my horse up for a couple of days at the end of June?

My husband is on a cricket tour at the Eastern end of the island and I've said I'll go with him if I can take the horse ('cos I don't want to watch 3 cricket matches).

Google doesn't seem to offer many options.

Min requirements are a comfortable, safe paddock anywhere on the island for friendly 15.3 ish Spanish gelding. Somewhere to stash the trailer is a bonus and so is a field shelter.

The only thing I can suggest is that you telephone one of the big equestrian places like Brickfields and ask as I think word of mouth is the way to go on the Island.

I hope you manage to find somewhere as some of the riding is stunning, especially if you can get to the beach!

I can point you in the direction of several if you like?

My current yard has a bit of roadwork before the decent hacking starts, but I'm sure YO would accommodate you if you wish, its in Shanklin.
Beach within hacking distance with a bit of roadwork.

There is another I used to be at in Wroxall - very knowledgeable YO who has Spanish horses too, no roadwork for hacking there but not sure if she would have space.

PM me and I can give you names and numbers.

Dates now confirmed for 30 June to 4th July and probably staying in/near Sandown.

Lauraanddolly. Wroxall looks like an ideal location any numbers please?

I know of a place in the IOW called Brickfields horse country, I think they have quiet a few hacking places around there, you could ring up, I'm pretty sure they have a website if you google them!!

Theres a free site, www.wightbay.com, with a horses for sale section (more people look there than the equestrian bit!). Might be worth popping something on in case a 'private' yard might have room.
Also, some of the beaches in the main tourist parts don't allow horses May to September, there are signs up and I'm sure the council website would say which were out of bounds. There are some wonderful rides towards the west of the Island, between Newport and Freshwater, that go through forestry and downland with beautiful views out to sea.

ETA -http://www.glebefarmholidays.co.uk/, although this place is more central, they do liveries and caravans at very reasonable rates. The hacking is fabulous (keep my old lady there!)

Shanklin/Wroxall area has some amazing hacking, you can go for miles without going on a road. Not sure of any suitable livery yards in the area though, but have fun!

Hi,

I've been following your post with interest.

Here is a link to the website of a family run, professional yard. Lovely people and if you spoke to them they would most likely be able to either suggest another yard, or be able to accomodate you.
They are on the outskirts of Godshill. Lots of fabulous hacking.

Another good source would be to try contacting the Riding Clubs.

Thanks very much; that looks ideal. I hope she's got some room.
