IRAP - tell me all

Have a read of this:

My dressage horse had it done in December 2008. I brought him in to the clinic and he stayed overnight while they took the bloods. They did the processing and the first injection was ready the next day. I took him home that evening. One day off, one day handwalking and back to work (he wasn't out of work at the time). He had three injections 10 days apart into the tarsocrural joint. We have one more vial on ice, which we will use some time this year. Luckily this was still on insurance but it came to around £800 all in.

My vet noticed that the quality of the synovial fluid increased noticeably each time he did the injection. Because my horse wasn't lame at the time it is hard to say what the result was. However, the horse has gone from competing at novice to medium since then, and is now schooling canter pirouettes and piaffe with no ill effects. His hock still looks awful though

MY 4 out of five lame was going to be put down last resort irap they take blood out of neck and inject in to the joint every ten days i had five injections three still lame four and five sound but he was very bad and was box rested though out but thats could be he couldnt walk and did make him go barefoot two months after last injection just starting cantering he wanted to do more but i wouldnt let him to scared incase he went lame again

My boy had IRAP injections into both stifle joints last November for suspected OCD which was found to be just synovitis once they got in the joints with arthroscope.

He was on box rest throughout and had 3 injections each side all 7 to 10 days apart. No problems since and back into full work after a rehab process and lots of help and support from physio rather than the vets. Not sure if it was the physio or the IRAP that helped him as he still walked wonkey even after the IRAP. It cost £600 to collect and process the IRAP injections then at least £150 everytime they came out to inject!

Good luck if you decide to go ahead.
