Was not sure where to put this so if its in wrong place, I apolgise....

I have a lovely horsey on loan, babyish 7, but coming on nicely and lovely mover. He is pure ID and also registered SH.

Do any of you show under the IDHS rules at any of their qualifying shows etc?

I dont know the first thing about it other than having read up on breed standard and what they look for, horsey appears to have some of it...

Is it a hard field to get into?? from a fun/novice showing person point of view, I am not wishing to get to any great level but would like to show against similar animals just to get some idea of where horsey sits!!

????? any comments welcome.....!!!

I have done the usual working hunter/show hunter/veteran classes but this would be something totally new!!
 
Yes, I got an RID mare and have been showing her for years. I had only shown in coloured classes before that. The popularity of IDs has increased a lot and our local ID classes started out with really poor attendance but now our County Show has really good entries and the standards are pretty good I would say.

Classes at Lincoln are huge now too. Don't know what your local scene is but the IDHS are at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire and if you go onto their website you can find out loads, including I think which shows are holding ID classes. Lots of shows now give best ID rosettes in hunter classes, etc.

Would be happy to speak on phone if you like or you can PM me? I love IDs and my mare is now in foal to a purebred stallion so really looking forward to showing baby in next year or so.
 
I have two pure bred ID mares and they get shown on the Northern circuit with the breed show being in September. The ID website will have a list of 2008 shows being held over the country - if you check out their web site www.idhsgb.co.uk and the shows should be listed on there at the beginning of next year. Some county shows have special rosettes for the highest placed ID in hunter classes etc.
The ID committee are a very friendly and knowledgeable bunch and any ID advice is easily obtained by any one of them.

Well, this is a "clean" picture of his head, body is much the same......I have heard on grapevine that judges dont like duns...is this true LOL!!??
 
The grey in my sig in my RID gelding and we have been showing for a few years now. We are in Ireland so run the IDHS, they hold a number of classes throughout the year including the biggest being the National Championships. Another huge event is the Riddeen Irish Draught Class in the RDS in August.

The only difference with showing IDs is that are judged against the breed standard, feel free to PM me if you want

wow!! thank you for your kind comments, sadly I dont own him!! far too expensive for me (daddy is Banks Fee Daniel) but would love to buy him, have him on loan hopefully for an eternity, in the meantime saving like a demon!!!

I usually go for TBxID, but he really has grown on me, I am in luuurve!!! Feels so solid - especially as I am bit older now lol! - nearly 40!! - so feels nice to have an armchair even if its a bit springy!!! Havent got many good pics of him yet....

And after jumping lesson, this is where his nose looks a bit "big" for showing!!! Also one of his eyes shows more white than the other, would he mark down for that sort of thing??

I dont think you will have any problems showing a dun. As long as the conformation is good i dont think colour comes into it (as long as the breed standard allows it).

I am the proud owner of an ID too and hopefully we will be out and about showing next year. I have certainly found the IDS very friendly and helpful up till now so go for it!!!
 
Breed Standard states..

"Any strong whole colour, including greys. White leg, above the knees or hocks, not desirable."

But as other have said if he physically fufills the rest of the breed standard correctly you will be fine.

Showing can be very opinionated, thats the point of it but IDs are great fun to have about so enjoy it while you can

you can easily show an ID in hunter classes as well as breed classes. i think they are turned out the same anyway.

And no most judges should not mind a dun, ive shown a dun in small hunter classes and won at county shows! quite a few duns have won at big shows (particularly in the cob classes).
The only thing you will have to be aware of because he is dun is that he will stand out, and if he is norty at all the judge will notice, when they are bays and your on a norty horse oyu can try and blend in a bit but its not possible with a dun.

Is he REALLY pure ID?? I ask because the general view is that RIDs DON'T come in 'proper' dun (and he sure looks proper dun to me - and a very smart chap.) Cork Arthur is MEANT to be dun - but he looks very grey to ME (and most people who've seen him!)

Who is his Mum?

Def def Irish Draft pure...green passport etc, Breeder was a Mrs Nash, does that help? I know nothing!!

Cant find a pic of mum anywhere!
 
this is whats making me think maybe he is part bred after all!! (god Irish X's are so much easier to tell!!!), the breeding of mum although it gives the space they are not completed, BUT it doesnt say unknown either like they normally do??!

Easiest way would be to email his owner!! I will be back!!

There's no Westview Foxion in the IDHS (UK) database. There's a Mrs D Nash from Hampshire listed as a member - but not as a breeder. Is it a UK passport or an Irish passport?
 
Cork Arthur is dun although as he has grown older he has gone lighter. He currently stands in Ireland and is far underused as a valuable blood line. The lines are dying out due to fashions etc. I had a dun brood mare by Cork Arthur who also turned grey eventually. Before she had to be put down, she left us with two beautiful pure bred fillies, one is also dun and she has had some very good placings both in ID classes and hunter youngstock.

I have found that ID judges tend to judge the horse rather than the "face". If anything an unusual colour will stand out more against the usual grey & bays - go for it in the new year.
