OK, I may be being a total muppet so please don’t shoot me down - I am having a horse vetted tomorrow and thought I would try googling his Sire / Dam and see if I could find any pictures or info.....

I have found this :

http://www.idshs.com.au/perl/search.pl?op=tree&index=4394792_bay_male&gens=5

All the details re Sire, Dam, Colour, and year of birth match the boy I am getting vetted but at the top of the chart it says "The Irish Draught and Sport Horse Society of Australia". I am in the UK and he is meant to have come over from Ireland direct from the breeder. So is this just a listing of all Irish Draught breeding worldwide or is the listing specific to Australian breeding? Or is it more likely that the stallion is in Australia and Dam is in Ireland and AI was used? Or none of the above!! Sorry if I sound a complete idiot, but I can’t find any other info on where the stallion and dam are now, so I am a little confused!!

Thanks for your help. :ox

Its an Australian database. Breeder would have emailed to have stock put on so all progeny go on one ID database.

Nice jumping pedigree.

Thanks for clarifying that. The nice jumping pedigree bit - which parts are good? any advice on where I can look to find out some more info, is there a website that lists ID's and their achievements?

Your chap (to be) is by Drumhowan Gold RID, who graded in 2002. He appears to have disappeared of the radar, so can't tell you any more about HIM. But he was well-bred - by Flagmount Diamond - one of the best sons of the great King of Diamonds.

Flagmount Diamond's full brother Flagmount King was Grade A - I don't think FD was actually backed - but he's produced a LOT of jumpers and a number of graded stallions.

If you browse the latest RID stallion book - http://www.horsesportireland.ie/_fileupload/StallionBook2009RIDStallions.pdf - Flagmount Diamond pops up a LOT!

On the female line, he traces back to King of Diamonds too - and is linebred to King of Diamonds, the VERY influential RID mare Gowran Betty and Errigal.

There's some info on Flagmount Diamond - and pic - here - http://home.btconnect.com/sporthorses/FLAGMOUNTDIAMOND.html

I have a RID with Flagmount Diamond on his sires side, and I find him very trainable and willing, with a good jump. My boy also has Pride of Shaunlara, Tara Sky, and Sllievenamon blood running through his veins.
Have fun with your new horse :)

Wow! JanetGeorge thanks so much for that info – fingers crossed now that he passes the vetting!!

RitaJennings – he is rising four, newly backed and ridden away, with a lot more growing to do and has the most fantastic laid back temperament and so far hasn’t put a hoof out of place, so I am hoping this will continue!!

My pleasure! I'm a bit of a fan of Flagmount Diamond - this is my mare by him - she is a full sister to both the RID stallion Drumrii and the dam of another RID stallion, Diamond Design!

Not such a fan of this mare at present - we're now at our 3rd try at getting her to keep a pregnancy!! Hopefully it will be worth it!

Good luck with your vetting - pics ARE required!:D

JG your mare is gorgeous – good luck with trying to get a foal from her, it must be so frustrating for you!!

Well my man passed his vetting today :D, but unfortunately he has developed ringworm since we saw him earlier this week, so have had to delay bringing him home. As soon as he is home I will put some pics up.
:)

After all you helpful advice and info, I thought I would post a picture of the boy in question - he has now been with me about 6 weeks now and has really started to settle in well. Its his official birthday on Wednesday and he will be the ripe old age of 4 - so still lots of growing and filling out to do. Hopefully picture will come out! :)

Lovely horse!

The first horse I was ever plonked on was an ID, and as I get older and wiser an ID has become my "if I win the lottery" fantasy first purchase :) Gone through the Arab and TB and warmblood phases. Now just have to get the money...

WOW - he's a very nice chap indeed. Good front end - and a hell of an engine too. Compact - and looks like he moves very nicely. If that doesn't jump ....

SusanneF - I know where your coming from re the Arab / TB thing - Ive been there too, but have to say that now I am a complete ID convert - it took me over a year to find him!

JG - Thanks for your lovely comments. If the 4ft cat leap from stationary that he put in the other day over a single trotting pole is anything to go by then yes I think he might be a jumper!!:D:D:D However, he is not very bold and a bit backward thinking (is that a nice way of saying lazy!!) so we shall see....if he only turns out as a happy hack I will be pleased, he is such a lovely boy, very babish and green but is coming on every day, so we will see what the future brings. For now we will just get him out hacking, little bits in the school and take him out to a few parties for a walk about and just give him some life experience while he matures.:)
