hello
i was wondering could any one please reccomend me a irish draught stallion.
the mare i would like to cover is a 14.1 and a bit connie type. good hock action and good strong feet. you couldnt ask for a better temp. however she is a bit short in the neck and does have a slight long back. she has bred 2foals. her 1st foal is chesnut about 15.1 afraid dont know the father she was in foal when i bought her. the 2nd foal is now 15.2 her dad was a15.1 conniextb.
i am open to AI but never used this before.
any suggestions would be most grateful
thank you

you might want to try Janet George on here as she knows her IDs plus she breeds them and has a rather nice stallion.

I would recommend Suma's Murphys Law. Currently standing at http://www.brumleyastud.co.uk/stallions/. Also check out Suma's web site http://suma-stud.com/picture_murphys-law.shtml, I broke Murphy as a 4yo when I worked at Suma stud, near Slane in county Meath. His manners are impecable and he is a very friendly type. He is very well made also with the best of breeding lines. I also looked after his dam softee and his sire Pride of Shaunlara, who is one of the most Famous ID Stallions. Crosstown dancer another I broke also has impecable manners and great confirmation, champion ID here for many years, he is 17hh though and stands here in Eire. Might be available through AI.

I may be wrong but think Suma's Murphy's Law only runs with mares and doesn't cover in hand or AI, but if you are OK with that then he could be an option.

I would go along with Rita's suggestion and take a look at Hillviewfarm Trevelyan RID, he is a super type and his owner is very knowledgable and great to deal with. Rita also has a FAB RID stallion in Archie but I think he would also be to big for your mare. :)

I think hillviewfarm trevelyan is a good suggestion- if memory serves me correctly he is by the recently deceased tobias corbet (who was dubbed by some 'the best RID stallion this side of the water'), however there are others under 16.1- Bridgeford ferryman being a useful traditional type- or skip & sea - one of my personal favouraites is very athletic and about 15.3 i think. I'm also impressed with classic scot as i think he would be useful for producing smart sporthorse/sj horses etc. kelston blue max is another under 16hh @ 15.3hh if i remember rightly.kensons high prospect is also in ur size range and the 'kensons' prefix is held by a very respected breeder so I have no doubt he will be quality.

all RID stallions undergo strict grading & vetting and willbe out of graded stock.

Agree about Hillviewfarm Trevelyan. Total classic ID with Slyguff Hero in the lines (who of course was full brother to King of Diamonds).

As you are open to AI, what about Silver Jasper, a grey traditional type with rare bloodlines. He is dead but there is still frozen semen available. Check out the IDHS (GB) website for a list of approved stallions.

thanks for all the choice. i didnt realise there were so many on the 16hh and under mark. i can spend all day looking at them now. oh gone on lambing call outand not back yet.

Well done Simsar!
So pleased to hear that he is on the NTR stallion register, he is a cracking young stallion and I wish you all the best with him, many congrats!!!!

Hi J, just seen this post sorry about the late reply. Thank you so much, we are so excited that he is now official. You know how I feel about the Gradings at the moment so it is nice that he has a full bill of health and we very much look forward to his future. xx

Well done with Spyder, that's fantastic news!!

Don't mention this issue with the stallions near me at the moment - I'm only just reigning in a nuclear meltdown .....

LOL its a joke isn't it. Thank you for the comment I am very pleased with him, how are things in your part of the world?

Ah bless you all for suggesting my boy and for your kind comments....thats kind of you. He is a good lad bless him. You honestly wouldn't know he's a stallion most of the time - I leave all that side of it to Jamie at Equine Reproductions ;)!. Heart as big as a lion and kind to a fault.

In fact he's off to Equine Reproductions this Saturday (16th April) for just over 6 weeks on his working hols. The yard will have a huge hole without him that's for sure. I am going to miss him so much.

There's plenty of video of him on YouTube as well - he was at the BBSH Stallion Event at Hartbury this year too and looked after my 18yr old son a treat (even though he's only just 7 himself) and despite getting a camera flash in his eyes right before a jump.

Things are ok up here thanks Simsar....bloody cold today mind you! The wind is back. Will give you a ring.

Andrew James Eventing has Coilldarach Scirocco RID, lifetime approved grade one.

"lifetime approved" is another term which means nothing anymore - ALL RID stallions are 'lifetime approved'. The term was only relevant MANY years ago when stallions had to be brought forward at 3/4 - then a couple of years later - then a copuple of years after that!
