well my idxcob is 2 1/2, i bought a full size bridle (second hand) it fits apart from the nose band doesnt even touch end to end! so i was just wondering anyone else with id's or idx's ...is this a common thing that i will have to geta seperate extra full noseband?

Count yourself lucky as my lad's is an XXF noseband with an XF bridle and takes a 6.5 inch bit which is oversize so very few off the peg bits .

Bigger sizes are becoming more common so there is more availability now than there was even ten years ago.

well i went in a tack shop last week asking about a fulmer with a lozenge in 6 inch and she said surley i didnt need one that big but i know i do as the 5.5 rubber bit comes right to the corners of her mouth,so i know i need a 6 inch.just why wouldnt the woman beleive me,i was really annoyed that she didnt think i knew what i needed!
the bridle i had to drop the cheek peices down 4 holes so i cant see it lasting lol

when I first got my IDx, I was using a spare full size bridle on him and the nose band was 8 inches too small :o
I ended up buying an extra full
bridle and changing the cheek pieces to full size ones

Mine are full and extra full size, with 6 and 6.5 inch bits.

Some bridle brands seem a bit weird in their sizing though, I have a horse thats a cob size, and for a while he had a work bridle in full size from Heritage but the brow and nose were too small and I had to swap them out.

I normally either get made to measure, or make up a custom Jeffries bridle from parts. Im having trouble sourcing 6.5 bits if anyone knows any good places?

having been a welsh cob owner all my life, when i bought my irish draught I naively trotted off to the local tack shop and bought her a full size bridle thinking it would be prefect. WRONG! lol

I had to take it back and get a 'hunter' sized bridle, which up until now, i didn't know existed...I thought full size was the biggest they went! (Can't you tell I've always had ponies?! lol)

It also applies for other equipment....most specifically, rollers....i bought the largest size roller and had to go and buy a seperate girth as the one it came with didn't even meet end to end!!! lol

I never even gave my roller a thought!I bet that wont even reach round anymore.
What size girths do you all use? I bought a 50" from a tack sale, which fitted when I tried it with a saddle, but again it probs wont fit anymore

XF bridle, 6.5" bit, 54 inch girth...:-)))

Have some spare 6.5" bits as chap is semi retired now, will post them in the tack swap section later tonight in case anyone is struggling to find.

I have a 62" girth for my lad.

He is 19hh

His bridle is XF size and his reins are made. He also takes 7'6" rugs :rolleyes:

While we are on the subject of big heads I have been trying to find a headcollar for my friends horse. We have tried an xl aerborn colllar - won't even go over his nose :D Had a really lovely leather xl which did go over his nose but we couldn't fasten it over his head:(
So do any of you know where I could buy a h/c big enough for the little darlin'
He's a lovely big percheron

Try a dually headcollar (monty roberts one) in blue (xf). Can be used as a normal headcollar but not for turning out in. It's got a lot of adjustment on both nose and head and goes quite big.

XXL and XXXL headcollars here http://www.bluehorseequine.co.uk/in...category_id=46&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1

Or if you're skint use a dog collar as an extension strap for the head of the leather headcollar you've already got. Or what about the white native breed halter and rope? They're not a size, fully adjustable.

We had a problem getting a bridle to fit for our Irish draught. It had to be mostly extra full but some bits full. Needed very large reins.
