Irish Draughts

Theres a really lovely Irish Draught up at the livery yard where im keeping mine, hes so sweet, loveliest horse ive ever seen.
When i get a new ridding horse i think im gonna get ID x with something. I went to try one last summer, King of Diamonds was like his grandad, he could be so lovely, but he was only just 6 and not schooled at all, and i didnt have time/ experiance to bring him on.
Ill post some pics when im at home if i remember.

heres my girl I love her to bits, she 15.2 IDXTB by Balleynoe Lad if anyone nos him??

My boy is ID x Irish Cob and is a saint most of the time then the cob comes through. They are so amazing and just have the best look to them their eyes are always so honest and handsom.

Shil I know what you mean!! Charlie was a little s**t, he had a bad attitude to everything apart from work!!! In a different thread I posted that he was a dove killer!
However, I was much younger and agile when I had him! He would carry me all day hunting, never putting a foot wrong and I knew we would both get home safe, but could chuck me in the sand if he felt like it!

this is H, first pic as a gangly 4 yo then second pic was last year he's def changed a bit, and not got any on the comp yet of this year so will have to update them.
I adore H he is such a kind horse and really tries hard at what ia sk him to do, even if he does need a rocket occasionally-though the oats are def helping there now! His sire is clover brigade (out of clover hill) and his dam is creevy lass a wntr mare who i know nothing about.

This is my pure ID. He is by Blue Rajah.

Now that's a LOVELY head!! (The rest of him looks pretty nice too!)

I'll spare you ALL of mine, but ...

This is my stallion, Lady's Tralee Raj - he's a sweetheart!

Raj-2.jpg

This is one of my favourite mares, Corraslira Lady. In the pic she's being backed - at 9 years of age! But she IS a broodmare - I just like them to BE backed. She's by Uibh Fhaili '81.

Karina9.jpg

And this is her oldest daughter Cleo (by Grey Macha) - with HER first foal (a colt).

Cleo.h3.jpg

And Northwood Rose (by Gort Boy) with her colt Rambo - who hopefully will be graded next year.
Rose-f8.jpg

And this is my beautiful Macha Prince as a baby - His Mum is by Grey Macha and is a full sister to Agherow. Prince is 2 now - and due to go for grading next year.

I think I am going to have to have my King of Diamonds mare (aged 26) PTS

I still have her grandson by Armani First (Seacrest) and her youngest daughter by Sir Rivie, and I also have a Flagmount/Euphemism gelding who is just the business. I like the purebreds best, providing they have enough quality about them. Don't mind IDxTBs but have to wonder about IDxWBs, though thankfully they aren't doing so many of them these days.

That's so sad - you must be devastated (((( hugs))))

I know I'm going against the flow here....but I've never ridden a pleasant ID x TB (and I've ridden a few).
All the sh1ttiest riding accidents I've had, have been on these horses - they are as strong as oxes, and seem to inherit the ID mule temperament, rather than the TB generosity.
Urgh!

In my experience IDs take longer to mature and can't be told or rushed to do something, they need to be asked nicely! They can also be sharp but I've not known one be stubborn. I think any horse, whatever the breed can be strong but only if they have something to pull against like your hand and my ID will set her neck if I get hold - so I don't and she's a little star

This is our 2 yr old, taken as a yearling, she is pure bred out of Grizzle RID (Cork Arthur ) by Silver Jasper RID (obtained via frozen semen as he has been dead a number of years.

This is our 5 year old taken at the end of last year as she began her hacking out (OH rides her as she is humongous)
Again, out of Grizzle by Huntingfield Heathcliff who is now in Ireland.

Lovely pics, thanks for posting - I bought my girl from Cumbria but she's by Carrabawn View

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who's responded to my ID post so far. As I expected there are lots of positive comments and lovely photos of gorgeous versatlie IDs. If I can figure out how to load a pic I'll do one of my girl.

Just out of interest is everyone a member of the ID Horse Society?

That's me - always rushing, and telling horses what to do!

No, I've ridden a lot of them...from Grand Prix dressage ones (complete sod to WPs and to handle, although he was ok with me), to SJ ones (who decided to jump into a 8ft deep ditch, upend us both, and nearly kill us - because a distant car appeared, he was sold to a farrier who wasn't strong enough to stop him so

to those who said they don't pull).
They have common heads, 'nests' as FUGLY would say, upright shoulders, long backs, weak loins, short forearms....huge feet.
Face it, they're pretty ugly...and they're vile to ride.

Mr Sunny your horse is stunning

[/ QUOTE ]
Why thank you! He doesn't have a very ID-type head, but people always think he's at least 16hh3" because he's so chunky, in fact he's only 16h1"

ID x TB seems a very popular combination, a lot of eventers are ID x TB- I guess having some ID in them makes them a bit more sensible!

Shilasdair there's good & bad in every breed! I've known a lot of good IDs that don't have the faults you so loving list, I've also known some that are extremely sharp & need tactful handling & will only work for people they like. That's horses!!

Why not go & create a TB appreciation thread instead of playing on ours? I promise not to post my view on the majority of that breed

I have a 2 year old ID x Warmblood. By Kensons Aragorn. She is boootiful and is my third Kensons Aragorn horse.

My genuine, lovely boy who I compete on is Aragorns Grandson. He is 1/4 ID.

I can't wait to bring on my 2 year old, she has such a cool temperament.

I have an irish sports horse (idxtb) and have to say hes the most honest horse I've had. He will do anything I ask, well most things. One thing I have to say tho is he has tb feet, absolutely rubbish. I've had a lot of trouble with his feet but have started him on hoof supps. Has anyone else had trouble with their idxtb's feet?? He also moves really nicely which helps when we do stressage comps.

Hes by lucky gift, dam almurra rose. Has anyone else got a horse by him? Hes still throwing stock (if thats the right word).

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but when you say common head I presume you mean a roman nose which in my opinion is not the same. Sounds like you may have come across a few that haven't been well bred because you are not describing any IDs I know. If I can post a picture of my girl she may just change your mind so be prepared to fall in love with an ID. Not that I'm biased you understand!!!!
What breed do you prefer?

Oh, touched a nerve, have I?
smile.gif

It's a free world, I can post where and what I like.
And I like most breeds. I was even prepared to like IDs or ID x TBs until members of the breed put me off completely
wink.gif

You can say what you like about TBs...or any breed that takes your fancy...it wouldn't worry me.
The Connemara cross above (sorry, forget his name), is a very attractive looking horse....perhaps that's a better cross for them...

No, I don't necessarily mean Roman nose...but their heads appear too large, with small eyes, and large jowls. The worst though, are the ID x TBs which have the ID head on a TB neck
wink.gif

I'm prepared to view your girl - will I need much vodka? - will my eyes bleed? or is she the exception that proves the rule, he he?
I like most horses...but never met a nice ID or ID x TB yet...and I've been to a few Irish ID studs....

The problem is I talk non-stop when I'm riding him & I always get caught mid-word, it's a habit I got into because it beats holding my breathe which is what I used to do when I concentrate! At least with him the words are normally polite or laughing, on most TBs I've ridden it's an unflattering description of their parentage & where I'd like them to end up (assuming they aren't so skinny that Pedigree Chum wouldn't be interested
tongue.gif
).

I've always held my breath when riding ID horses too...I think it's a subconscious wish to commit suicide rather than continue.
I could have a few guesses at the words you were saying...'get off my hands' perhaps? Or 'stop leaning you barsteward!'? I see no politeness...nor laughter.
With a TB you would have a radiant and happy smile...and a light, floaty contact.
