Anybody know any Irish-footed beagle breaders (good ones). I live in Sheffield but prepared to travel anywhere for a decent breader!

I've just done a bit of searching; It appears that the Irish puppy farms are using the term "foot beagle" for runts.

:( oh dear.

ETS. More reassuringly I have just found the Curragh pack of Foot beagles, which are of course hunted on foot (as I thought all beagle packs were?) so maybe that is what the OP is looking for.

Perhaps they are six toed ,spread footed for the bogs and come with green eyes? :D Either way you can be certain some trophy hunter will be hunting pots with some shortly!Being so incredibly rare it will never meet another you see,so it always comes home decked in ribbons.
Ah ,the visions that Irish footed beagles has begun in our little minds:rolleyes:

There are 19/20 beagle packs in Ireland and you could try the Irish hunting website as that might have contact details. (www.hai.ie) The details are published in the Irish Field directory every december so maybe their website might be of help.

I just thought it was an old-fashioned term for beagles used for hunting on foot, you do hear it quite a lot here.

As S4S says, you do see a lot of them/crosses being sold on Gumtree and Donedeal, I would not look there....

If you want a nice, well bred beagle try here -http://www.dialynne.co.uk/pge.php?page=11 or go directly to one of the packs - no reason to go to Ireland (which is the European capital of the puppy farm!)

I've been out all day. Thanks for all your help / advice!!! I should have said Irish Foot beagle and not footed!! However, I like the thought of a lucky Irish beagle carrying a shamrock- an Irish foot beagle tends to be smaller than the normal beagle.

No - an Irish foot beagle tends to be poorly bred or a runt.
In the USA they have two sizes of beagles -under 13" & under 15" but the rest of the world only accepts one size -under 15".
The puppy farms in Ireland have cottoned on to people being prepared to pay more for they rejects hence the marketing.
What you are looking for is a small one - not foot or teacup or Elizabethan which are all marketing terms for sub standard puppies.
I work with Basset hound welfare -we get inundated with puppy farmed puppies being shipped here -the beagle rescues have the same problem.

Well I would gladly take a rescue beagle and make a donation - but you rarely come across them through the RSPCA. If you have any ideas about getting a rescue one please let me know. I had no idea that Irish foot meant that basically the dog would be a runt
