Hey guys,

Just wondering how true the "myth" or if it even is a myth is that irish horses take longer to mature than other breeds? I have a just turned 6yo (he was 6 about 5 weeks ago) and although he is very healthy, bright eyes, gleaming coat etc etc he is not underweight by any means but just looks so babyish! and i feel lacks muscle behind and slightly on his topline. I have put him on bailys outshine which hasnt made much of o difference He has been on schooling livery for the past 8 weeks (inc lungeing and hacking) and hasnt seemed to change shape at all is all legs and looks slightly out of proportion with his body... just wondering if i was missing something, if he will always be like that, or if he will mature a bit later lol!?!? and info or experiences would be much appriciated (also in NL) xxx

Not a breeder - try JanetGeorge on her as she breeds ID's but I have/had a number of ISH - ID x TB's and yes they take a while to mature - technically speaking they are a warmblood. Don't think my boy was really properly mature till gone 7..As a guide mine has gone from a narrow (aged 6) to a wide fitting saddle. He seemed to "pop" out muscle wise when he got a little older.
