Denis Lynch has been selected as Ireland's sole representative to travel to Hong Kong for the Olympic Showjumping competition.

Oh dear, Billy no mates springs to mind! I did think it a shame about Jessica Kurten but whilst I understand her reasons for not going I did also think they also came across as a two fingers to you salute. Ho hum.

Really!?

I thought it was a case of saving face as she was unlikely to be allowed to go anyway due to suspension

anyway denis is going really well this season so he deserves a shot. mind you i got sent this fab video of him on facebook coming off some horse and lets just say it would have ben a lot less entertaining if he had just stuck two fingers up at it.......LOL

I posted that video on here a couple of weeks ago, BUT it doesn't tell the "full story"...

was that the vid where he falls off twice and swears vilely at the horse? and HE'S going to the Olympics for Ireland? You have got to be kidding!

Cripes. Now i know i'm not really entitled to criticise anyone's sj, but i can't believe he's the best jockey they've got...! he must have the most phenomenal horse, is all i can say. (or maybe he was having a very very off day when that vid was made!)

it must be said that showjumpers never seem quite as prepared as eventers if their horse stops but fair play to the horse for decking him twice. Laugh, i nearly cried, but denis is a fair old jock though his vocabulary may be somewhat limited......

Just googled the vid in question and I laughed. The horse's face when it's led back a second time just says it all. Something along the lines of "ner ner ner ner" in a childlike manner.

I didn't realise the Irish hadn't qualified a team this year

Actually fairly surprised that someone of that calibre is the best we could find, an unpleasant piece of work if I ever saw one based on that video..wouldn't want to be a horse in his yard!

I reckon you could tie any of the elder statesmen riders on a horse and they would do better than him.
His riding on that video was atrocious, and no wonder he fell off twice.
I am really sad, I seem to recall Ireland having the most fantastic riders such as Eddie Macken. Where are the new ones?
That chap isn't fit to lick EM's boots...

no argument from me there. i bow at the mere mention of the Great Ones Name and how excited am i he is reprsenting ireland in nations cups again. fingers crossed he does hickstead for them cos i am going.

That video has had over 10.000 views - I wonder who put it up??

Hilarious - he really didn't sound impressed and I wonder was it even one of his own or had he been asked to ride it as a one off.

He has the best Irish results by far this year, I think has won 3 major grand prix!!

Hope he goes as well in Hong Kong.

But he's had some excellent results recently - that's what counts...

that is true but how funny will it be if he gets dropped in hong kong on world television? can they bleep fast enough?

Ditto that. I can't say the video made me laugh at all, quite the opposite....

If he is all Ireland has to offer, then that is a very sad state of affairs!!!!!!! Ireland use to be know as one of the best producers of horsemen in the world.

If you look at how he is riding that horse on the video, I am not surprised it dumped him. Leg position is c**p, he was heading out the door way before the horse decided to give him an exit, hands pinned on the neck, no real feel on the horses mouth, no give over the fence, the horse is going nowhere.

GOD WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!!!!

If he has recently had good result, then I would say all credit to his horses, they must be very honest, super stars.

So his language is extremely ripe - but unfortunately some people are like this. Doesn't make him a good or a bad rider. Also, no matter how easily he was shifted when the horse stopped, he didn't have much of a chance the second time when the horse fell. I imagine he was feeling a bit squished and sore by ths time.

No matter the circumstances of this one off video, he has the best irish results at the top level this season, and that is what counts.

I suppose with some of the top Irish horses off with injury (World Cruise) and riders injured (Billy Twomey), and banned (JK)......he's the best they could field.

A huge shame IMHO. Ireland seriously needs to get their act together. It all seemed to fall apart with the Cian O'Connor fiasco, but that was four years ago. Surely there is a new generation of riders who have been nurtured and promoted - I mean Ireland is one of the richest countries in the world and has such a brilliant tradition of horsemanship.

You say he had no chance when the horse fell the second time, agreed no one could have stayed on, but you forget to mention that the reason the horse fell in the first place was purely down to rider error. Watch and you will see why!!!!!!!!!!

Halfstep - but he has won 3 major grand prix this year, nothing to do with World Cruise or BT being injured.

Cruiseline - I watched it about 3 times last night, but because it is coming directly towards the camera I really couldn't see whether he had overshortened or similar. Did he simply place it far too deep?? Sorry to be daft.

Fiona

Nope she decided a long time ago not to go to the Olympics and it has nothing to do with the suspension, the horse does not travel very well and she decided with the owners not to put the horse through, and i dont blame her I would not risk any of my horses for the Olympics, unless you do really really well people will judge you by the smallest mistake that you and your horse might do,just listen to all comments in here, what will be written if they don't do well ?? Cant you imagine what the media will write..Nah its not worth it !

and to be fair to denis, the video looks quite old tho it may have been posted quite recently because that looks like a uk or irish show and he has been based abroad for quite a while now. and his results are good, he is a real competitor and hates getting beat and has beaten everyone likely to be featuring on the medal table this season.
