Eventing Ireland today has formally announced its short list of Senior Horse and Riders combinations in preparation for this years European Championships to be held at Pratoni in Italy in September. The combinations to be considered for final selection are:
Sally Corscadden with Mr. Gerry Leahys Millridge Kalmar
Capt. Geoff Curran with the Minister for Defence/Mr. Maurice Cassidys Balladeer Alfred
Jonty Evans with Ms. Deborah Toogoods Cregwarrior
Louise Lyons with Mr. & Mrs. Laurie Marshs Watershipdown
Joseph Murphy with Mr & Mrs. Kieran Connors MasterBoy
Austin OConnor with Mr. & Mrs. Eddie Davies Hobby DuMee
Michael Ryan with Mr. John Butlers Old Road
Susan Shortt with Ms. Katie Walshs Stoneybrook
Steven Smith with Mrs. Sara Allwoods Quality VH.
All of these combinations have either already satisfied the criteria set down for consideration for selection, or are in a strong position to attain them over the next 5 weeks or so. Speaking from Barbury Castle near Marlborough, Performance Manager Lars Christensson said So far there have been a number of excellent performances, particularly from some riders who managed their program very well early in the year and achieved their qualifying scores some time ago. Other riders suffered from weather conditions early in the year, when the going was unseasonably firm, and more recently, with cancellations due to waterlogging. All of these combinations however, have demonstrated their ability and there is still time for them to now demonstrate their consistency, starting this weekend here at the CIC*** in Barbury Castle. The plans for these riders now runs up to a conclusion at either Hartpury or Thirlestane Castle, after which final selections will be confirmed.
I think Jonty Evans, Louise Lyons, Austin O'Connor and Michael Ryan are pretty much guaranteed a place on the team...
